Socialist Venezuelan Leader Steps Up Arming of Supporters After Outlawing, Confiscating Civilian Guns Login/Join

Worth noting for reference....

Maduro plans to arm 400,000 supporters amid protests and unrest.
The socialist leader of Venezuela announced in a speech to regime loyalists his plan to arm hundreds of thousands of supporters after a years-long campaign to confiscate civilian-owned guns.

"A gun for every militiaman!" Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro said to uniformed militia members outside the presidential palace, Fox News reported on Tuesday. The Bolivarian militias, created by Maduro's predecessor Hugo Chavez, already number in the hundreds of thousands and are being used to supplement the regime's armed forces. Maduro is boosting the number of armed supporters in hopes of keeping control over the country from what he labels "imperialist aggression."

The arming of Maduro's supporters comes five years after Venezuela's socialist regime outlawed the commercial sale and civilian ownership of firearms. Only the military, police, and groups like security companies can buy guns and only directly from one state-run arms company under the law passed in 2012, according to the BBC. The country recently doubled down on its gun ban through a combination of gun buybacks and confiscations in the summer of 2016.

"We are going to bring disarmament and peace," Interior Minister Nestor Reverol told Reuters during one confiscation event.

The Venezuelan government justified the gun bans and confiscations by saying they were needed to combat the country's violent crime and murder epidemic. However, statistics reported by the nonprofit Venezuelan Violence Observatory show the murder rate in Venezuela increased from 73 murders per 100,000 inhabitants the year the gun ban was instituted to 91.8 murders per 100,000 inhabitants in 2016. Statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation show the United States murder rate in the most recent year available, 2015, was 5 murders per 100,000 inhabitants.

As protests and unrest increase in Venezuela, Maduro's regime has created a landscape where civilians are disarmed but his supporters are not. The latest round of mass demonstrations in the streets of Caracas have already claimed five lives. Experts said the current protests are more widespread than in the past, and the country may be at a breaking point.

"Ongoing opposition protests are generating strong turnouts and spilling over into typical Chavista strongholds, suggesting that social dynamics may be drawing closer to a tipping point," Eurasia Group analyst Risa Grais-Targow told ABC News.

"The excessive ambition of [our] enemies threatens the peace and stability by carrying out a criminal agenda loaded with hate that includes terrorist acts, disturbances, looting, vandalism, different forms of violence against innocent people and public health facilities," Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said of the unrest, Fox News reported. He went on to say the protests are creating an "anxiety in the public, anarchy and chaos, with the ignoble aim of toppling the democratic government."

There are no reports on how Maduro's regime plans to use his newly armed supporters to counter the demonstrations in the future.

By arming half the Venezuelan population so they can forcibly disarm and subjugate by violence the other half of the population.

Perfect leftist thinking.

History repeating itself all over again. The disarming of a culture under the government lie of protecting them, never has ended well in the past, and won't end well here either.

Maduro appears to have decided on a path to deal with his "Deplorables" who have been disarmed.

5 murders per 100,000 inhabitants in the US? ... and we have more guns in circulation than we have people in this country?

Obviously, guns are not the problem.

Looks like a full takeover.

Venezuela: Authorities Seize General Motors Plant.

April 20 (UPI) — General Motors said it has ceased all operations in Venezuela after authorities unexpectedly seized its plant in the city of Valencia.
A court in the Zulia state said it imposed a broad embargo on the assets of General Motors Venezolana, C.A., or GMV, which has been in operation for nearly seven decades. GMV said authorities seized its plant Wednesday afternoon and that its associated bank accounts likely are also out of its control, meaning the company cannot make payments, such as employee wages.

GMV called the act “improper, absurd, outside of legal logic and due process.”

“GMV is taking all legal measures within its reach in order to protect the rights of its workers and their property,” the company said in a statement.

The company called on workers, suppliers, dealers and external operators to refrain from reporting to work at the plant or other jobs until the court ruling is reversed.

El Universal reported the seizure is likely related to a lawsuit against the company filed by a former landowner in Maracaibo.

As Chairman Mao reportedly commented "people will learn that political power comes from the barrel of a gun". As to history repeating itself, maybe Venezuela holds a lesson/warning for those in the US.

Leftists don't *truly* hate guns.

They just want THEIR people to have all the guns. This is a perfect example.

The end state for ALL socialist ideology is a police state. Police states can't function without guns. That is, guns in the hands of the jack boot thugs who are, in turn, controlled by the leftists. They NEED guns to suppress and oppress the freedom-loving people and to maintain power.

The Founding Fathers KNEW this; hence the 2nd Amendment.

If it does, very few of the next generation are listening. My son and his cast of nitwit college friends are truly the next crop of "useful idiots". They appear more than willing to comply with whatever government demands because government is the answer to their problems/challenges. I've ceased even trying to debate these issues with them.

Socialism Sucks: Venezuelan Authorities Illegally Seize General Motors Auto Plant

Can the situation in Venezuela get much worse?

Socialism has left the nation in ruins, with citizens forced to take extreme measures, just to get the most basic of necessities.

Those memes you see of long lines and empty bread shelves to depict the effects of socialism? Those are a reality in Venezuela.

Protests are raging in the streets, as desperate citizens demand a change, and it’s only getting worse.

Over at The Resurgent, I did an earlier piece about the Venezuelan government disarming Venezuelan citizens in 2012, in the interest of “ending violence,” but now proposing to re-arm a pro-Maduro militia, in order to defend against the unarmed citizens who just want to be able to eat on a regular basis.

Here’s another twist in the ongoing lesson piece: Socialism is a Bad Thing.

The Venezuelan government has seized a General Motors plant in Valencia, Venezuela.

From Reuters:

“Yesterday, GMV’s (General Motors Venezolana) plant was unexpectedly taken by the public authorities, preventing normal operations. In addition, other assets of the company, such as vehicles, have been illegally taken from its facilities,” the company said in a statement.

It said the seizure would cause irreparable damage to the company, its 2,678 workers, its 79 dealers and to its suppliers.

Venezuela’s car industry has been in freefall, hit by a lack of raw materials stemming from complex currency controls and stagnant local production, and many plants are barely producing at all.

Ford took an $800 million pre-tax writedown in 2015, writing off its investment in the embattled nation.

Food, drug, and even cleaning companies have felt the oppressive crush of doing business within a socialist nightmare state.

Venezuela’s government has taken over factories in the past. In 2014 the government announced the “temporary” takeover of two plants belonging to U.S. cleaning products maker Clorox Co which had left the country.

Venezuela faces around 20 arbitration cases over nationalizations under late leader Hugo Chavez.

The next time Bernie Sanders or some Ivy League talking head wants to pump up the joys of socialism, maybe point them to Venezuela.

It won't work. The Kool-Aid drinkers simply believe that THEY will be able to 'make socialism work' (even though it has failed EVERYWHERE it's been tried). . .

The problem with socialism is human nature. People demand their free ticket on the gravy-train, and get contentious if they don't get it. Those in power abuse their power to serve self.

I have been saying for a long time now, this will require violence to solve.

Venezuela is a textbook example of why communism and socialism do not work, except for those administering it. And when they get threatened by those 'below'. Then, they have no problem in killing them by the score to remain in power.

The truth is, Chavez rose to power when the people of Venezuela voted to become members of the FSA (Free Shit Army). Now the free stuff has stopped. They want their free stuff. Oops, there is no more.

And Maduro and company have all the guns. Because the Venezuelans gave theirs up to stem 'crime'.

I find it sad, and do not want to see what is going to happen, happen. But the people of Venezuela were stupid/ignorant - and voted to receive this lesson in economics and politics.

Time to experience the low flying lead.

Once freedom is lost... it's very hard to get it back. It always requires revolution. Maybe that's why they call it 'revolution'?
