I'm sure most here are familiar with this one (and if you aren't you should be), but I hadn't seen it in a while and quite enjoyed the reminder lately when it came up again:

Reagan was annihilated at the GOP convention. It was probably a good thing because whoever was elected was going to get dragged down by Vietnam and we would never have seen him for the post-Carter reconstruction.

My dad, a lifelong dem, told me that if I voted for Barry Goldwater we'd be at war with Vietnam. I did and we were.

So we can blame the war on your dad? (I’m joking, of course)

This was one of my bitches about Obama. His base loved his speeches. They were read off a teleprompter. When he went off script he sounded like a Chicago thug.

I'd like to compare the numbers he's quoting throughout against those from today/2018.

In any case, I think it's an excellent speech with lots of nuggets/points/etc scattered throughout.

Every so often, when I need a kick in the ass, I listen to that speech.

Big Grin

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
-- Justice Janice Rogers Brown
