I spend enough time 6 days a week talking to people on various radios, I thought about a HAM radio years ago but went against it.

No. I don't know of many near me and most are not Hams.

Presently, I'm limited to 2 Meter at the base station and that will get me 30-50 miles out from the repeater. So I haven't yet caught a SIG Forum member ion the air.

I'm only a Tech with a Yaesu handheld, so no. At some point this year I'm hoping to study up and take the General and Extra exams, then get into a nice base station with adequate antennas. Until then? Nope.

Technician-level Ham here, also, with a handheld and a mag-mount antenna on my vehicle. I got into Ham radio mostly at the behest of some of my local CERT buddies; I don't converse much beyond participating in some of the weekly, local net check-ins.

There is a very much like minded group on AR15.com under the forums/outdoors/ham radio headers. They meet up on the air at a regular basis. I have not joined in as of this time. You might check it out.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

working on my Extra - installing a long-wire HF on my property to cover 6 - 80 meters - hope to have it installed and wired in about a week or two - waiting for a mount platform to be fabricated by a friend to support the center post of the antenna on my roof

it might be fun to talk with some other hams

No but it might be fun. Would have to be on 40 or 75 SSB though these days.

That might be interesting in deed.

I really only do 2 meter here at home and mobile. We are putting up a 6 meter beam to I can talk to my buddy when he goes to Traverse City, Michigan in a few weeks. I've talked to him on 10 meters when he goes we are going to try 6 meters this time.
From the Baton Rouge area to Traverse City.

My HF antenna went down in a windstorm two years ago and I haven't got around to rebuilding it yet. But something like this might be the thing to get me going again. 40M SSB would be my best option. I only have 2M in the truck.

If any of the old timers here have any old RCA or United 845 power tubes from the 40s-70s, I'd love to buy them. Long shot, I know.
