California to Ban Sales of New, Gas Powered Vehicles by 2035 - Stupidity Level 10 Exceeded!

State bans sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California will halt sales of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks by 2035, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday, a move he says will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 35% in the nation’s most populous state.

The proposed rule would not ban people from owning gas-powered cars or selling them on the used car market. But it would end the sales of all new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks in the state of 40 million people.

California already has rules mandating a certain percentage of new car sales must be electric or zero-emission vehicles. This rule, if implemented, would make California the first U.S. state with a plan to phase them out completely.

At least 15 other countries have made similar commitments, including Germany, France and Norway.

Newsom’s order directs the California Air Resources Board to develop and approve regulations to meet the 2035 deadline. He also ordered them to make a rule requiring all medium and heavy-duty trucks be 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2045 “where feasible.”

Newsom also directed state agencies to speed up development of charging stations across the state and called on the Legislature to eliminate new fracking licenses by 2024.

They can't even keep the lights on in California ...
What are they going to do, buy everyone a horse?

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

So everyone has to go to Arizona, Oregon, or Nevada if they want to buy a car?

That just seems silly...

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Imagine the reliability of emergency vehicles (fire trucks, LE, ambulances, governors executive security) that run on electricity only. Then there's that pesky trucking industry that ca depends on.

ca may end up with many older non compliant vehicles being kept on the roads.

And you can bet there's going to be exemptions for certain groups of people.

So the good news is that the manufacturers of automobiles won't have to cater to more stringent CA emissions standards. They can just stop selling in Cali altogether.
Liberalism is truly a mental disorder.

Managers of the electric system argue that a lack of power prompted the decision to enact blackouts, though demand this weekend fell short of the state’s peak years.

I am pretty sure their electrical infrastructure cannot handle even half of the residents of the state having electric vehicles. It's impractical but they only see what they want, converting to all electric will take more resources and upgrade of the infrastructure than they can ever afford.

Manufacturing companies have known this was coming, they have people in place in CA working with CARB and legislators.

It's one of the largest car markets in the world, so thinking that GM, Ford, Toyota, Fiat are going to ignore them is a mistake, CA will get what they legislate.

No doubt the used car market will be strong for a while, eventually that will get killed off as well. Going to take some time, but the E-Politicians are in it for the long haul.

Mexico is going to crank up some big coal fired plants to sell power to california. Remember in CA it's not about being green, it's about how green you look...

Hey the Big 3 coulda stopped this a couple years ago if they had just done a Ronnie Barrett and said we aren't selling vehicles in California to anyone. Nope, they rolled over and pissed in the air.

So now we get this.

'Or', these stupid ass agendas and mandates are going to finally drive enough people out of the state and piss off the rest that stay to a point where a major upheaval will occur. I still believe (perhaps foolishly) that a huge attitude adjustment is on the eventual horizon for CA. When? Who knows, but I believe it will eventually arrive.

Under this plan, will out-of-state, gas-powered cars still be permitted to drive in CA? How about gas-powered airplane flights into/out-of/over CA airspace? Goodbye LAX. Or do they have a plan to develop electric aircraft?

You can't just pass a regulation and expect results; you have to consider reality and consequences. But we knew that.

^^^ My wife's first comment when I noted AZ, NV, OR and, UT will sell more new cars was, "bet they ban them from being registered in CA and, the smog emissions certificate (required every two years after the initial six years have passed) will become so stringent, all vehicles will be banned ten years later."

OK, the governor is doing this by an EO, or at least trying to do that.

While it's misguided and unfeasible, it only applies to new car, truck and SUV sales in 2035. This does not apply to vehicles in use or the used vehicle market. It does not prohibit the use of fossil fueled vehicles coming from out of state.

Because people from out of state come here and existing vehicles won't be affected, gas stations will be around for a very long time. A long time.

This EO is dumb as fuck and not practical.
