But I was so much older then, and ya'll know the rest.

A couple of months ago, I bought a Microtech UTX-85 OTF that is always with me.
I decided to upscale a bit.
It's another UTX-85 but with a damascus blade by some Norris somethingoranother guy with blue accents.
For whatever reason, I had to have it.
This isn't the exact pattern, but is representative.

Prayers for healing and faith sent. It was years before I was really done with the ciggies. Health problems, addiction, doubt, depth of faith, desires to get better. As corny as it sounds, without faith, I really couldn’t get through another day. Sometimes we can be the worst things for ourselves. Keep up the fight!!!!!

Prayers are always appreciated, thank you.
In fact, the prayers for me taken as the whole in this thread are proof they work.
I am still here.

That first month of not smoking seemed too easy and I got to full of myself.
My arrogance got taken down a peg or two.
That's a good thing.

Looks like my knife shipped this morning.

I am on an OTF knife kick right now.
This will be my 3rd OTF in recent months.
It's nice to have multiple carry choices each day.
This one is all black hardware except for the 2 tone tanto blade.
It's not my fault Microtech calls it the Hellhound.
Truth be told, I'd prefer it was called something else.

Yeah he is!

I have been kind of down physically since my infusion Friday.
I did OK Saturday but not since.
I crossed some weight threshold and they upped the medication by about 7%.
Not eating anything since Sunday night hasn't helped matters either, though I think I am going to order a mexican fiesta dinner for take out.

I got up this morning at 6AM and having not felt good all day, I thought to myself what a long day today has been.
But then I thought that there is nothing wrong with a long day these days.

I suppose earlier in my life and under different circumstances, a long day was typically a negative thing.
Hmmm, not anymore.

God has always smiled on me my whole life.
Nothing has changed.

Here comes another post about God, so if one wants to head for the exits, now is your chance.

Oh man, did I make a mistake a week or so ago.
I have refrained from posting about this because it's embarrassing to have been so dense.

I suppose what happened may fall under the heading of "if you aren't working enough, you will never make a mistake" but still.

I learned it is a bad idea and a bad plan to barter with God.
I am not even sure I can undo what I did, but I have asked to undo a prayer.
And I am OK if my prayer is answered.
My family would benefit.

So, here's what happened.
As you all know, I am terminally ill and fear for what becomes of my family.
I pray daily for supernatural protection for my family from their enemies and evil.
I am not going to be around at some point to help my family through life.
I think such is a legitimate fear for many of us.

Decades ago as I remember things, I attempted to barter with God and found out it is wrong.
Why oh why could I not remember my lesson from way back?
Here is what happened recently.

I was watching a couple of family members going astray and falling for the evil that is worldliness and I just couldn't stand what they were falling for, so I prayed to God and offered my life in exchange for God's protection of them after I go.

No sooner had I finished that prayer when every fiber of my being screamed at me that I just did something very bad. In part, some of my rebuke was from the Holy Ghost for sure. Probably all of it as I am not not smart.
I immediately saw my glaring error and asked God to undo my prayer and asked for forgiveness.

I am not a learned man in the ways of Scripture, but I don't need Scripture to tell me I was wrong because I could feel so strongly I had made a major league error.

Now, I cannot say what God will do here and if I am stuck with what I prayed for as my punishment or ramifications therein, I am OK with such.
I would come out way ahead on the deal I offered up.

But still, as I said above, that my "barter" with God was frowned upon in a big way and I could just feel myself full with rebuke.

Argh! I guess if I never do anything to advance in life and in spirit I would never make a mistake, but I am not that way.
If I were that way in life and spirit, I would never progress, but my mistake was a big one.

It doesn't matter that it was a noble gesture, what I did was just plain wrong.

I have not talked about this with my pastor yet, but at some point I will.
But I already know I was wrong.

Yes, God knows my heart and my intent, but still, it's my fault.

I have to say that it took me awhile to be able to post about my glaring mistake.

As the story goes, Danny Thomas also bartered with God.
Judging from his example, I'd have to say it may not always be a bad idea. Thank God.

God's gift of life is precious.
My attempt at trading a gift from God back to God was about as foolish a thing as one can do.

Given my terminal disease, what I did makes sense in this world.
In this world it might even be considered noble by some.
But in the spirit world, what I did was a no no.
I am certain of it.

Like I have said to myself for decades:
As smart as I am, as dumb as I am.
So true.

Maybe I will be healed 100%, maybe I won't be.
If I am not healed completely in a physical sense, I will not be disappointed.
My faith remains as strong as ever.
It has to be that way or I don't really have faith.
My faith is not dependent on a specific outcome.

All that has happened to me since late July has been wonderful and is proof to me of God's power and miracles.
I don't need the gift of total healing physically to show me He can do it.
I already see His power and believe in it 100%.
Therefore, it is not necessary the miracle of total physical healing be used one me.

All I ever wanted recently was spiritual healing and I definitely received such.

I hope this makes sense.
It does to me.

Once again, I am simply amazed at my journey.
Just what will happen next?
I dunno, but it will be awe inspiring.

Oh and BTW,

The two tone Microtech Hellhound OTF arrived.
It's stunning. It looks way better in person.

With my advancing age and the damage I have done to my body in life, my hands have lost some dexterity.
Auto folders are a little difficult for me and the most out the front types are a breeze.

I would recommend them for others like me whose hands don't work as well as they used to.

One still needs a strong thumb however.

Here is a follow up on my errant prayer.

I spent some time talking with my pastor yesterday.
He kinda of let me talk my way through it and listen to myself talk about it and learn from it.

As I have posted about before, I get that electric feeling in my body when God is present.
I had that message/feeling for a rather extended period of time moments ago as I was in prayer.
The gist is God understands and forgives me and I am in a good place again.

I now realize that the reasons for my discomfort were several and why it took so long to get over something some might consider trivial.
I had to learn and ponder a few things.

One is that I needed to go outside myself and show what I had done, which I did by visiting my pastor, rather than keeping this hidden and quiet, as well as post publicly.
Lots of my faith is private but this one could not be.

Next, I needed to understand exactly what was wrong with the errant prayer.
It was difficult at first, easy once known.
God's gift of life is so wonderful, what I had done was basically say to Jesus:
Thanks for the gift of Life, but I am all done with it here and want to return Your gift and trade it back to You for something else.

Yep, that's what I did.

Another item was that I needed to stew awhile and do a penance thing. I haven't done that often enough in my life.

This was also a minor test of Faith to leave me hanging in the wind yet stay the course while feeling lost.

Finally, and here is the big one:
I needed to see the distinction between something that could be considered right, just and noble in a worldly sense, may not necessarily be so in God's spiritual realm.
This is huge.

So true. And these were all big lessons and something not casual in the least.

That's one story throughout my life.
Something that may initially look to me like there is not much to it until I find it is actually very deep and full of substance.

I was watching my oldest daughter moving some of her furniture into the basement just now and was marveling at how youth can make such short work of major physical tasks.

I told her about this and then said that I knew I had gotten old because if I had to do the task she just did, I would have considered the breaks I would need before even starting the work.

I really think there is some truth in that:
You know you're old when you plan your breaks in advance of any work done.

I guess I will tell you all about how I caused a car wreck with a rolling donut.

Back in the summer of 1967 at the age of twelve, I attended a summer camp at St. Johns Military Academy in Delafield Wisconsin.
My parents went to Europe that summer and I ended up there.

The campus was split by a county road with the units and housing on one side, and about everything else on the other side.

Every Wednesday I think it was, the mess hall served us these giant raised donuts with sugar on them.
They were quite large and were about 8 inches in diameter and about 2 inches think.
They were huge.
In fact, we called them go kart tires.
And they were as tough as them for sure.
That's why I decided to smuggle one out under my jacket (it was cold in the mornings).
It wasn't like you could really eat one or anything.

There was a foot path/trail along the ground that we would take as a shortcut and as we approached the county road, I decided it would be funny to roll my donut down the path and out onto the road if it would make it.
There really wasn't much chance it was going to make the 200ft downhill, through a barb wire fence, cross a shallow bar ditch and run across the road.

I gave the donut a bowling type toss and we watched in amazement as it rolled back and forth, side to side, bounced up and down all the while following the trail perfectly.
Then it got better, or worse, depending on your point of view.
That donut them proceeds to find it's way through the fence, then the bar ditch and finally (and painfully) out onto the roadway.
What were the odds?
Like a gazillion to one?

We heard this screeching of tires and a car swerves radically to the right, down the ditch and takes out about 20ft of barb wire fence.

At this point, my two friends take off running and leave the scene.
I just couldn't run a way and ended up going down to the car and seeing if everyone was OK.

This lady is in her car and rolls down the window and asks me if she killed it.
I said no ma'am , you didn't kill anything, are you alright?
Then she says she is positive she hit an animal crossing the road.

I tell her truth and point to the giant donut laying partially flattened on the side of the road.
So now I am in for it, in a few moments it's going to be official, I am going to be a regular juvenile delinquent.

But wait! I mean Presto!
The lady starts laughing and carrying on about how she swerved for a giant rolling donut and was relieved she hadn't killed something.

I am standing there in disbelief and looking at the damage to her car and the 20ft of fence she knocked down.
Then she suddenly says not to worry about it, says good bye and drives off, still laughing the whole time.

Well OK, I never did own up to the fence damage, but it sure was strange to me the way the events unfolded.

Yes, I caused a car accident from rolling a giant donut across a county road.
Silly me.
