Copper/brass fire extinguisher restoration
I had one of these many many years ago but sold it, just picked up this one at a local fire muster. It had/has a decent amount of tarnish on it but after hitting it with some Flitz tarnish remover and Flitz polish it is coming along. It's not quite to the high shine/mirror polish I'd like it to get to, but it's getting there.

After:

What I'd like it to look like:

That is sweet. What's the weight on something like that?

Not much, it's empty so maybe 5-10lbs.

Heavy enough to put out someones lights, I would say.

Pennsylvania State Prisons used to have those heavy puppies in key locations. Usually within a Officers short reach.

Should have left it in natural state.

Best regards,

I tend to agree on this one, but Brasso would be a good one to try.

I do like the tarnished look but those are a dime a dozen.

I worked for a fire protection contractor back in the 80s and 90s.
We pulled old brass fire extinguishers out of warehouses all the time. They were no longer serviceable.
I made two very nice lamps out of them. I still use them.
I cleaned them up but did not polish them. I like the antique look.
If you do not keep polishing them they will tarnish again.

I have several. For fire antiques bright and shiny is better. Wenol and good soft cloths are the best method.

Do they have the glass acid bottles and holders inside?

I have a couple of 1955 Getzen Super Deluxe trumpets, and I have always been wowed by the Brass, Copper, Nickel look.

And yeah, I like shiny!

Love these old things.
Lotsa visual interest in the right setting.
Looks like you have the hard work done.
I was given this one.
I like polishing, it's satisfying seeing things go from dull & tarnished to bright & shiny!

I started with steel wool to remove the tarnish.
Then moved on to mothers polish.
Finished with a power buffer on a flex shaft.
Every two years I have to hand polish it to keep it bright.

Use the finest grade steel wool then brasso or other brass polish.

Unfortunately no, the inside is completely empty.
