I didn't see evidence of the powertrain being ejected. From a photo on DailyMail, looks like he was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Blvd, crossing into oncoming traffic lane and then rolling over in the hillside. I can't tell if it's uphill or downhill, but you'd have to be traveling at an excessive speed and hit something rather firm in order to eject the engine.

Anywhooooo.

Looks like he was driving the new Hyundai Genesis G80 luxury SUV, It has 10 airbags, a forward-collision warning system, evasive steering technology and an interior camera that alerts the driver if they're falling asleep.

Wonder if the interior camera records your actions, imagine it has a black box, reports are he was travelling at a high rate of speed, for it to roll and land that far from the point of impact at the curb suggests it was moving...

I'm going to refrain from speculation on the cause of the accident, but I will be interested to know the rest of the story. As for Woods, it doesn't sound like this accident will be fatal, so hopefully he can recover from it.

Anywhooooo.

Look again. When they picked it up with the crane there’s a VERY large empty gap between the front wheels with a couple hoses hooked up to nothing.

Me too, he was sponsored by Buick for several years. Word is that it was on loan to him.

The tournament is sponsored by Genesis. He was driving a courtesy car by the sign on the door.

Just read alcohol was not a factor.

Pain meds possibly? He is just coming off of back surgery after all.

Jim

There's that (news said meds were unknown).

If this is the road I am thinking of, someone else coming around the corner on the wrong side of the double yellow and you overreact, bad ju-ju followed by an "oh, crap, this is not good and gonna hurt really bad" thought.

Woods is a seriously flawed man who happens to excel greatly at the sport of golf. His public adoration was like a drug. I hope he recovers from this accident but I don’t think much of him as a role model or man.

If he wasn't wearing a seatbelt all those airbags might be as much of a benefit as you might think, and could explain the leg injuries.

Of course the media reports had to reference the use of the "jaws of life" in quotation marks several times in the story.

A lot of questions should be answered when we find out why he was on the road by himself at 7 a.m. Could be innocent circumstances but it does seem odd.

Could well be a honest accident. Given his celebrity status, I don't have much confidence that the "facts", if such are compromising, will be properly reported.

I read where he was going to meet Drew Brees and another football player for a photo shoot or some kind of meeting. He was running late, as the valet was late getting his car to him. Took off at a high rate of speed.

Wouldn't be his first. His last was in 2017 and he pretty much had the kitchen sink in his system. But - at 7am you have to be a pretty hardcore addict.

When he got his DWI in 2017, he had all kinds of prescription pills in his system. Given the nature of this accident, my guess would be the same.

Sorry for any thread drift, but does anyone know how long airbags stay deployed? Typically you think impact, they deploy, and then they're deflated. I've only seem them deflated at an accident scene. Seems like that might not be too much help if you're in a rollover lasting seconds.

Once the canister deploys the “air” to inflate the bag-the bag immediately begins decompressing...some bags have hole in them to help air escape as the person hits the bag-so they won’t bounce off of it and the bag actually absorbs the impact...

In my real world experience as a street cop working wrecks, I’d say the bag doesn’t actually stay inflated for more than a second befor it begins collapsing....

I’m sure there’s some tech manual that will give you more info

And I’m only talking about front airbags...I’ve had to cut side airbags to get them to deflate so I could get into a car to drive it onto a rollback or hold a steering wheel for a tow truc driver

I heard on the radio that he was doing a series of "lessons" with celebrities for a tv channel, and he was supposed to be there at 8am to film the next installment. He was staying at a hotel nearby, and the road was very curvy and very steeply graded, such that they commented that accidents like his happen commonly in that area.

No alcohol, but no tox screen back yet, that I've heard. May just be a guy driving too fast trying to make up time. We shall see.
