What China is claiming about their new radar tech is absolutely true.

It's also why China never developed any 5th generation stealth fighters of their own like the J-31 which first flew on October 31st 2012, or the J-20 which first took off on January 18th, 2016.

Cuz, you know, that would be a complete waste.

It really makes me wonder...

Why we haven't given the satellite born weapons more R and D.

For those familiar with the "Rods from God" concept...

The idea is a large tungsten rod dropped from a satellite, by the time you combine that rod with the terminal velocity, you basically have enough kinetic energy to equal a nuclear weapon, but no fallout.

Combine that with current computer technology and you have a weapon that on a smaller scale, can be delivered accurately from space, and deliver an almost unstoppable payload to a locali site. It wouldn't take a large payload to take out a radar. A small satellite could house maybe 12, 24 such rods... Those could be dropped, and using only fins for mobility, use kinetic energy to destroy basically any radar side any country had. Falling at terminal velocity, they would be almost unstoppable by any conventional means...

Look at google maps. They can get recent pics that literally show my work car in my driveway of my house. In 5 years, you'll be able to pick my dogs out in the yard with free to use, google maps....

Ok, pick up the radar signature of the planes... If we were going to actually attack you, do you think those radar sites are going to be anything but smoking ruins???

Every advance in military tech has been countered by further advances. As long as we don't slack on the R and D, we will have the upper hand.

could be as simple as the new JY-50 VHF radar they unveiled at Zhuhai last November

remember that they don't have to invent it to have it. If we've developed it, they probably have it. Their cyber-espionage program is legendary. And our (everybody's) cyber-security, is rather well known as well.

One has to ask why the Chinese would openly disclose such a system if it really existed; transparency? Highly doubtful. Misinformation? Much more likely.

As others have indicated, at some point, satellite technology will evolve to the point that it can outstrip radar in detecting anything flying through the atmosphere, give an image in real time, all without creating electromagnetic energy that can be detected by air crews. The big jump will be when a weapon can be paired to satellite systems that is difficult to detect while homing in on the target.

Well, it's like anything. Technology just keeps moving forward and I could see the Stealth bombers and fighters as not being nearly as stealthy as they once were. Another technology that can be used is thermal imaging camera's. All jets put out heat.

In actually the F-22 and F-35 are more stealthy than the F-117.

The difference is that people understand how stealth works and how to counter it to an extent. And we've countered with better mission planning and electronics, for example the F-117 didn't even have an RWR so it wouldn't even know if a radar that was a threat was near by.

But even with the ability to detect stealth, you still have to shoot it down, and that isn't easy as the radars that work best for that are in the frequencies that stealth is tuned to defeat.

It is no different than GPS, the Iraqis were surprised that we could navigate across the desert without using roads. Now everyone uses GPS or similar system to navigate.
