Ugh. IMHO, the only reason for "malt beverages" (as opposed to beer), especially flavored malt beverages, was to get cute chicks to actually talk to me in bars back when I was in college.

Go Belgian:
Trappist: Chimay Grand Reserve, Chimay Premerie, Chimay Cinq Cents, Rochefort 10, Westmalle, Westlettern, Orval, Achel Brun, Achel Blond, and Achel Extra.

Wheat: Hoegarrden, Witkere, etc.

Strong Golden: Duvel, Lucifer, etc.

Barley Wine: Gulden Draak

Lambic: Cantilion Rose de Ganbrinus, Lideman's Frambroise, Kriek, Peache, Pomme, and Cassis.

Other ales: Abbey de Leffe, La Chouffe, Kwak, De Konick, Saison Dupont, and many more.

There are a huge variety of Belgian ales out there and a very large number of American microbrews that emulate their styles. Give these a try and you will not be disappointed.

Best regards,

Mike (Beer Geek)

I recommend that you pick some REAL variety. Pick a stout, a porter, an IPA, a pale ale, a red, a hef... giver yourself a chance to make a determination on what general category (or categories) you prefer. Then dig deeper.

Samuel Adams has an excellent sampler case.

Dundee has a variety pack (6 types 2 of each). Just picked one up at my local Jewel supermarket.

Right now I'm waiting on my Extra Pale Ale to finish carbonating in bottles, and have an American Cream Ale starting it's second week of fermentation. Wink

Castleman's XXXX, a delightful little Queensland beer. Light of color, but a taste you can sink your teeth into.

I'm off to Las Vegas at the end of the month for another attempt at the back wall of the Crown and Anchor (30 different brews on tap). Will report back (hopefully). Pilsner Urquell and Stella Artois are currently at the top of my list.

Sam Adams, Stella Artois, Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada, Newcastle, Harp, Heinekin Dark.

Heinekin Dark is hard to find, but it's much better than the regular stuff.

Schlitz, Olde English, or Colt 45, but only if you're carrying your Glock that day. Smile

Wow, you live in Virginia and you're asking for a beer recommendation?

I got 3 word for you...Old Dominion Brewery or ODB for short. By far, best microbrew in the state. Also Dogfish Head has an Alehouse in the DC area. There's probably half a dozen microbreweries in the DC area, I'm sure they ship at least some of them out to the eastern part of the state.

Out of national brand beers though, Bass ranks at the top of my list.

90% of gun malfunctions can be attributed to poor ammo (reloads, Russian, etc.), lack of maintenance, weak springs, cheap magazines, or improper technique. When a well-trained shooter using a wide variety of high quality ammunition fed from a reliable, self-leveling magazine shoots your gun after it's gone through a through inspection, spring replacement, and cleaning, and still has problems, then it's the gun. Until then, the problem is YOU.

My favorite beer is the stuff I brew. If that's not available to you here are my recommendations:
Murphy's Irish Stout
Doghead IPA 60 or 90 min
Sam Adams lager or ale
Arrogant Bastard Blackened Brutal Bitter (yummy!)

Almost any microbrewery is better than Macrobrewery.

I tried Stella Artois today. It is pretty good beer IMO. While it was slightly similar to Heineken in taste it seemed to be much smoother and easier to drink.

caneau, I think the place I went might have some offerings from Old Dominion Brewery, is there anything they make in particurlar to look for?
