Gaetz was on Tucker the other night, and Tucker came away confused by Gaetz’s muddy description of the situation.

It seems Gaetz is under investigation by the FBI for traveling with a 17-year-old and presumably for paying for sexual favors, hence the “sex trafficking” theme.

Gaetz denied this person existed, but wanted to concentrate on an attempt by a DOJ official he named as David Magee to get Gaetz’ father to give $24 million to make the charge “go away”.

Or maybe it was an attempt to free a hostage in Iran.

Confused? Me too.
Here’s an article from Redstate.com about the current status:

Link

quote:
Another Republican lawmaker stated that accusations are not surprising. “Everyone already knew Gaetz was a ticking time bomb and his days in the House were numbered, but this story is more bizarre than expected,” the lawmaker said.

Other Republicans in Congress criticized Gaetz’s appearance with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson in which he denied the allegations and explained that a member of the Justice Department was attempting to extort him.

“I can say that actually you and I went to dinner about two years ago, your wife was there, and I brought a friend of mine — you’ll remember her — and she was actually threatened by the FBI, told that if she wouldn’t cop to the fact that somehow I was involved in some pay-for-play scheme, that could face trouble,” Gaetz said. “So I do believe there are people at the Department of Justice that are trying to smear me. Providing for flights and hotel rooms for people that you’re dating who are of legal age is not a crime.”

“His bizarre display on Tucker is an attempt to muddy the issues,” another lawmaker said.

Gaetz has been known for his vocal support of Trump and his theatrics in Congress and elsewhere. It is a quality that has annoyed some of his colleagues who are likely the establishment types. However, some on the right have made an interesting observation: The Trump camp has not spoken up about the story.
[snip]

Since news of the investigation surfaced on Tuesday, other facts have emerged giving more details about the story. RedState’s Bonchie reported that on Wednesday, Gaetz’s father, a former Florida state senator, provided an email showing that he was working with the FBI on an investigation regarding the allegations that a member of the Justice Department was trying to extort Gaetz.

So far, we’ve seen no evidence proving that Gaetz is guilty of any inappropriate activity with a minor. But to make things even weirder, it appears there may be indications that the representative’s claims of extortion might be accurate. His father stated that two men approached him after learning about the federal investigation stating that if the elder Gaetz give money to fund an effort to locate Robert A. Levinson, an American who was held hostage In Iran, they would do something about the younger Gaetz’s legal problems.

I hope he didn't really do these things. But having been an outspoken Trump supporter, you can't help wondering if this is some sort of frame-up. I wouldn't put it past the left and their operatives.

David McGee is a lawyer with Beggs and Lane, a highly respected white-collar firm in Pensacola. He worked at Justice 25 years ago. Seems that Gaetz's name came up in an investigation of a Seminole county official that Gaetz supported. Here is a link to the local mullet wrapper that explains the background

Thanks for the link. It contributes a little more to understanding how bizarre this is.

Note the report that AG Barr refused to meet with GOP Republicans with Gaetz present.

Doesn’t look good for Gaetz.

I sure wouldn't put it past the left to set him up, but he is also a typical multi-generational politician and therefore probably slimy as heck. Don't know what to believe.

This is really disappointing, he is my Congressman and we really like what he has done for our area, and for Trump. I hope not, but it seems he may have become victim of the most dangerous force in the universe.

Reminds me of the Governor Mark Sanford story a few years ago.

If any of this is true, it's a real wild story.

Not saying that I disagree with his politics. I don't. Just a personal opinion (obviously), but I always thought he was too much of a show horse, and not enough of a work horse. He never saw a camera that he didn't want to get in front of. He was elected to Congress in 2017. Yet for one of the newest members of Congress, he probably has more screen time than the next 20 new members of Congress combined. That possibly may have made him a target. But it's worth noting that this investigation began under Trump's justice department, not Biden's. I really hope it's not true, and he's right that this is a blackmail scam.

(TRUMP) I found him to be a little on the creepy
side. However, his outspoken support of Trump
puts a bullseye on his back.

This doesn’t really mean anything as we’ve all seen how bad the FBI is and how deep the swamp is.

I hope the allegations are not true and he can get himself out without too much political damage. We need everyone we can to fight the asshile socialists in our government.

Gaetz denied this person existed, but...

If this "person doesn't exist" he has nothing to worry about, at least from a legal standpoint.
However, if he had sex with a minor, and that person comes forward, his goose is cooked. But even if no one comes forward to accuse him, this is the kind of allegation that can linger and damage a person forever.

As Rush used to say about many of the regressive's allegations: "It's not the evidence that matters, it's the seriousness of the charge."

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

The story seems a bit bizarre. TBH: After the unremitting attacks on President Trump, most entirely baseless, I am inclined to regard with a jaundiced eye any accusations against any non-leftist.

My congressman also. Let’s see some facts.
I would point out that in addition to what has been pointed out above regarding supporting President Trump, taking the heat off Coumo and Hunter Biden there is also the fact that he has criticized the fbi, and the justice department in general and he went after liz Cheney, a true deep stater.
There are plenty of people from “both” sides that would like to take him out.
Hoping it’s all just BS.

Yeah, my comment was off-topic. Sorry about that. I have no idea if the accusations are true. Gaetz's public responses seem to be an attempt to obfuscate; to what end, I dunno.

We really do not know what goes on in people's heads. What seems very clear is that he needs to get a spokesperson to deal with the media. He is making the situation worse by the minute.
