VTHoky's attempt to get me a new bottle opener and my pitiful attempt to resuscitate the old one Login/Join

My invisible friend Dan (VTHoky) found out that my cherished VT Hoky musical bottle opener (plays the Hokies' fight song) appeared to have got Alzheimer's; it would start to play, then slow down to a crawl (think HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey).

Dan has been trying to get me a new one, even contacting the manufacturer, without success.
He sent me a substitute, non-musical bottle opener to hold me until he found the right one.

This typical SigForum generosity incited (I would have said encouraged, but that would be too positive a word) me to try to resuscitate my old opener.

Last night I took it apart and replaced the mercury button batteries inside. The fight song chorus went from weak and painful to dead.

Searches on eBay, Amazon, etc. were unavailing.

However: I was able to find similar bottle openers being sold out at fanatics.com. I've ordered an Ottawa Senators bottle opener; and when it arrives, I intend to perform a heart transplant, putting the new electronics into the VT Hokies opener. It will then be the proper orange color and Hoky logo. Unfortunately, it will sing the Ottawa Senators fight song.

I'm still working on how to deal with that one.

Since I know you all are on tenterhooks wondering about the outcome of the surgery, I plan to post an update post-op.

Wish me luck.
Thanks, Dan!

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

That’s a very novel marketing plan.

When you click to make an order, it takes you to a different product, with the same school logo.

Same for UT, Aggies, OU, too.

Yeah, I thought the problem was solved and the doc can just order a new one. I doubt they get any sales from that gimmick.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Yeah, been there, linked that....nada.
Sorry, it's gotta be the "talking" bottle opener.
If all 84,000 of you want to keep looking, though, that's fine with me. Big Grin

Just to add, please do not send 84,000 talking bottle openers. Eek
