Look into the Segway Ninebots too.
We have those Scooter rental things around town. I was talking with the rental company owner and he said they are nearly indestructible.
I asked how well they held up being left outside all the time and generally treated like crap as they are rented by the minute through an app.

They will get a few suckers at that price otherwise there has to be lower prices options because they are very simple machines.

There are tons of options between $600 and ~$1600. Heck I even tried out one of the local kid's Boosted Board longboards and found it incredibly fun. The kids also seemed shocked the old 57 year old dude could both ride it and enjoy it. Smile

If I lived within say 5 miles of work, I'd consider commuting with one of these scooters, at least part of the time.

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Anything over 25 mph on that is dangerous as hell and way overpriced. For $3800 there are a lot better options for fun. You can buy the type scooters that Byrd, Lime etc. use as rentals but better, for $500-1000 and they do 20-25 mph tops and that's about as fast as I'd want to go on one. Get the one with the widest deck on it.
