For those of you who think that government employees should not be able to join a union, this article shows exactly why an effective union is necessary. To keep the Colonel from ordering you to change your arrest reports!

Note that the reports were eventually changed to protect the guilty, even with a strong union.

The judge needs to worry more about saving his daughter than his reputation. I can see retirements over this before it's over.

BOSTON — The superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police is retiring days after he was accused of ordering a trooper to alter a police report after arresting a judge’s daughter.

I'm going to guess that something like this is a LOT more frequent than one might want to believe.

Good on the trooper for sticking to his guns. I hope payback doesn't bite him back.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Happens every day all across the country. Anyone who doubts that is either hopelessly naive or too young to know how the world works.

If Mass is like CA, he will prob make as much or maybe more money in retirement than he did working full time. Plus he will have his days, evenings, nights, and weekends free. So it's not like there were negative consequences for his actions. Roll Eyes

That's some pretty ridiculous reasoning on your part. You say there was a strong union, yet they were unable to do anything to prevent this. So the union was worthless.

I'm a government employee, and have absolutely no need for a union.

The trooper would simply have to file a lawsuit for either Retaliation, Hostile Work Environment, or both in Federal court. Those lawsuits usually don't end well for employers.

When I was partners in a Judo club one of our Black Belts (State Trooper) would bring in a co-worker every once in a while. One time he brought in a good looking female trooper that during her career had made (at that time) the largest cocaine bust in NJ. One day she was working the desk when someone came in and filed a complaint which she recorded in the ledger. Her superior later came in and ripped the page out of the ledger. She became an outcast in the State Police after reporting it. She ended up becoming an F.B.I. agent to get away from the troop.
