I am interested in buying a used shop vac to clean out a couple boats that have been sitting in the back yard for a while. Anyone have any experience with them? I will be vacuuming up wet leaves, some water, small sticks, and other crap that falls off of trees. Would this be a good option for me?

It would be an excellent option for you.

And, you're in luck, I just happen to have a like new 16 gallon 6.5HP ShopVac for sale.

What if it is a mix of wet and dry?

well if you don't care about dust, the foam is fine, if you do, use the cloth filter over the foam OR use the all in one filter they sell or include in some models.

Thanks for the offer but I think I am just going to try and get one off Craigslist. I really dont have the money to spend on one more than $40 bucks. Hopefully one in that price range will come with the filters I need. I would like to buy from you but I doubt you are willing to dip down to my price range.

Everyone should own some sort of shop vac. They come in very handy and you never know when you'll need one.

If it's a one time thing, think about just renting one. Our rental stores here have them for rent.

I have 3. You can never have too many good vacuums. Having the right size for the job is important. Also, not changing filters all the time is nice also.

One set up for the shop tools, one small one for inside of the boat, inside the truck, etc. One large mobile one for everything else...usually wet stuff.

Yup. Paper filter for general work; one with foam for burst pipes (don't ask), major spills, etc; small one to take outside for car cleaning, small jobs. First thing I bought after we closed on our house many moons ago was a Shop-Vac.

I have one and its great for vacuuming the basement and then also for blowing debris out of the garage so I can sweep it up easier

good advice on the filters though

So would this be the filter type I am looking for? I will be using this for lots of wet leaves, some water, twigs and spiders. I dont care about dust because I will be outside.

I like the price of this one. Will it be enough for what I need it for or do I need a more powerful one?

I guess I will have to empty it more often because its only 6 gallons.

If you ever replace a toilet then you know that a wet/dry shop vac is handy, clearing out the last remnants of toilet water is so much easier.

That should be fine. I have one that is 1.5 HP and it;s great for cleaning the car and the 5hp one is great for cleaning anything big so I would think 3.5 hp would be enough for some boats.

I have one like that, it should work fine for what you want to do. I think you'll be suprised at how much stuff you can get into a 6 gal vac.
