New clothes dryer. Which direction to turn timer? Login/Join

I just bought a new dryer. When the gas installer told me to always turn dial on .... direction to prevent wear. Darn it. I forgot which way now. Counter or clockwise?

When I try to turn either way it feels stiff. I do admit that I just turn it lightly to be careful but now I don't know which what it is.

I bet the owners manual would have useful info of that nature in it.

Clockwise. Unless you're in Australia and it's a metric dryer....

Depends on what cycle you are using. My timer is counter-clockwise for indicators on the left side of the dial and clockwise for indicators on the right side. Either way, the dial always returns to the 12 o'clock position.

Trust me. The manual doesnt say which direction to turn. It only tells u where to turn for specific drying.

I take consensus that is clockwise then? Because there are options all around the circle for drying. Lol. Why cant they be just time dry??

If the manual doesn’t say then it doesn’t matter.

Clockwise.

The same direction of travel when it turns with its motor when running.

Just to be clear, turning it either direction with it not running is fine and won’t harm the TIMER but you can cause more wear on the TIMER and/or the KNOB if you try to adjust the dry time with it running and you move it counterclockwise.

My Whirlpool is almost 20 years old and anytime I want to adjust any of the controls I open the door then make adjustments. The timer has been adjusted clockwise and counterclockwise with the dryer not running probably thousands of times and it’s still using the original timer and knob.

I agree. Why would they leave it out the manual and be on the hook for the warranty claims?

I gather from the info you have posted that this isn’t a countdown timer knob. If the manual doesn’t specify, it probably makes no difference, as others have suggested.

The guy who told you this-you called him a “gas installer”. Is he also an appliance repair man? Maybe call his place of business and ask for him. He’d probably be flattered that you want his advice.

yeah I call him later today. Will post a pic later when I get home. Work has kept me away. Ironic to spend on stuff home where I am not there most time.

The dial is kinda the old fashioned ones. Not the electronic ones that are wimpy soft to turn with lights.

stzd8...I have a dryer circa 1995; Kenmore Heavy Duty 80 Series. When turning the knob either CW or CCW, there is a bit of resistance. I have turned it mostly CCW all these years, but there have a been a few times when the knob was turned CW. I have yet to experience any kind of ill-effect from turning the knob in either direction.
