Time to get those cards in the mail if you're going to send one.

One of the local units near Ft. Worth should send a color guard to the nursing home to deliver a card.

"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

Alfred Hornik, Sunday, December 2, 1945 to his family, on his continuing duty to others for surviving WW II.

I thought maybe some forum members might want to participate.

SNIP:
Letters hold a special place in South’s heart, as his girlfriend, Sophie, wrote him one for each day he was at war, he told local ABC affiliate WFAA. He and Sophie went on to marry, and they were wed for 55 years before her death in 2001.

Looks like he got near 100,000 birthday cards.

"the nearly 100,000 cards he received after a simple Facebook posting asking for 100 birthday cards went viral and garnered national and international attention."

Smile Good deal! Hope he is able to spread out reading them over the days and years to come.

It would be nice to find a way to implement something like this for all our other veterans as well...or at least the ones interested in participating.

Reading that VA article, I had never heard of the Veteran of the Day program...that's kinda neat! I might have to submit a few entries.
