My close friend lost his cousin, about 3 days ago, looking for Fenn's treasure. Seems he wandered in the Rio Grande river, near Espańola trying to get to an island, but never made it. Thought, maybe, our members here could help. Anyone near the river, please keep your eyes open. Thanks.

ETA, last seen about 20 miles south of Taos.

I will also add, they have found his vehicle, some receipts for the day, and an anchor and rope going in the river. My belief is he slipped in the water and drowned. Anyone down river, please keep an eye open. The police have recovered his backpack, but nothing else. Thanks again.

bigpond 73, my condolences to all involved.

To the rescuers, stay safe. The Rio is a treacherous body of water along with the flood control and irrigation channels, fast moving water and mucky bottom.

I participated in one south of Socorro years ago, not an easy search or without hazards for the searchers.

It appears that the body has been found by some local kayakers, about 10 miles south of where his truck was parked. A difficult find, as only one boot was sticking up out of the water, apparently caught in some debris.

Thanks for keeping an eye out all, and thanks for the condolences on my friends loss of his cousin.

Stay safe out there everyone.

Damn, Mike. Sorry to hear it. Condolences to your friend and the family.

This was the first spring in several years where our little river in the valley was high enough to get our irrigation ditch running (about 2 hours South of Taos), and it's still going well. If that's any indication, the Rio Grande must be pretty darn powerful now.

Sorry to hear.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
