I get 4 or 5 spam emails per week. I define spam as the “Viagra” and “Make a $million in one year” type emails. My FastMail email service accurately puts them in my spam folder and marks them with a spam probability rating.

Thanks for the useful replies, and for the information about the type of accounts that automatically delete messages that some AI thing decides are spam. I can’t imagine putting up with something like that. I occasionally get legitimate messages routed to my spam folder, but I can see and open them if I want.

As for the ones about Sizzle Pork And Mmm, though, I wish you wouldn’t do that. They were so clever, original, and not to mention hilarious, I was rolling around on my floor laughing for so long that I actually got hungry and had to get up and eat a SPAM® sandwich. Then I saw the next post, and the same thing happened all over again. You guys are just too, too much.

Indeed! Yesterday I made open face sandwiches of fried Spam on baked-in-Germany pumpernickel topped with Thumann’s “Düsseldorf” mustard, black pepper and raw onion. They damned good!

I just checked my spam folder. Have 492 in there.

Virtually never see one pop up in my email. They go automatically to spam. I use ABP as well as the enhanced version. Cuts out all the BS from folks I don't know, or want to know.

I get a crap-ton. But I'm in the computer field and manage six (known) email addresses. I empty buckets of spam every day.

But I manage my emails on an ongoing basis, and either read, scan, delete or file everything I get. I have co-workers who, when presenting their computers onscreen in group meetings, have folders and folders of email messages, and many of them show numerous unread messages, including unfinished draft messages.

Really? You couldn't finish one draft before starting another? When are you going to finish the rest...?

I'm retired from the IT field and have an email address that's nearly as old as the Internet, itself. It gets the livin' hell spammed out of it.

I run my own mailserver. I have exceedingly aggressive anti-spam measures in place. So aggressive that I whitelist, in advance, everybody I can.

My mailserver has outright rejected an average of 1811 (77%) delivery attempts per week over the last three months.

I get anywhere from zero to three or four outright spams/day that get through.

I get regular "legitimate spam" several times/day. That stuff is automatically sorted into an "Adverts" folder upon receipt. My email client apps never even see it unless I purposely go into that folder.

If I didn't have control over my own mailserver, and a mechanism for automatically filing "legitimate" spam, I'd have to abandon my email address.

This problem is fixable, btw. Just like the telespam problem is fixable. We have the technology. It is not in the interest of the companies that pay the email and telephone spammers; the spammers, themselves, and the people who make money consulting to the spammers to see it fixed. That is why proposed fixes are blocked at every turn.

It's like our convoluted tax laws: There are people making a ton of money off this stuff--including the bureaucrats and politicians that are supposed to be looking out for the public's interests.

Don't know the numbers, but the rare (once a month maybe) times I open my spam folder to empty it - there are never any emails in there that I care about. Therefore I rarely pay attention to them anymore...

I never, ever crack open my spam folder unless someone specifically suggests their items may have gone there. I've got way too much shit to deal with in normal mail to waste time hunting for a unicorn needle in the desert.

I can't believe how much spam I'm getting these days! Thankfully, only a few get into my inbox daily. Because I'm the paranoid type who thinks he might miss something important, I go through my spam folder daily. Like Gene, I probably get 150+ a day, so generally I empty it more often than daily.

I used to get about a half dozen spam messages to my primary Gmail account per day, so I would monitor my spam folder daily in case something legitimate got caught.

However, over the past 6 months, it has increased dramatically to where I'm getting over a hundred spam messages per day. As a result, I don't even bother looking at my spam folder any more.

I suspect I got added to some spambot list ~6 months ago.

On my home email, it’s very rare I get spam. I was getting a couple a day about 4 months ago but it’s stopped.

I get a couple calls a day on my phone. I know they’re spam cause they come from the 216 area code and haven’t lived in CLE going on 4 years now.

Roughly 80 a day, with that being split between spam that makes it to my inbox and and the obvious junk that gets filtered out to a separate spam folder. That's just my main email, I have a couple of others that are worse.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Not many true spam emails. I use proton mail and the few that show up in the spam folder are 99% true spam, Nigerian prince level stuff. Maybe 1 in 100 (say one every 3-6 months) isn’t spam. It isn’t a hardship for me to run through the folder every few days or so when I notice messages there.

More than a few companies who’s mailing list I got on for one reason or another annoy by sending way too many sales/marketing emails, but unsubscribe takes care of those pretty quickly. And they show up in the inbox, not spam folder.

I was down to zero until anonymous hacked epik. Now I get junk in my business email and it seems I’m going to have to change my well-known email address.

So let me just say that I hope everyone involved in anonymous gets testicle cancer and the hospital burns down while they’re getting treatment but they survive only to get their legs run over by a steam roller before falling into a wood chipper head last so they feel every inch of their useless bodies being torn apart.

I have 3 e-mail accounts. I get VERY little SPAM in my primary and gmail account. I set up a Yahoo account to catch exactly that...SPAM. I probably average 8-10 per day in that account...maybe more.

I cleaned out the spam file this morning, just checked it again and there was 50 items. Nothing that I wanted.
And I am sure there will be more there tonight.
