I dealt several times with stupid conflicts between residents and HOA boards that had, or were about to, erupt in violence, usually over some trivial BS. I suppose there are good reasons to have HOA's, but my opinion is that HOA's are often run by little Ceasars (not the pizza place) who would spend thousands to make a point.

Unfortunately, in many areas, everything is a HOA. If you have to live in a certain area due to job placement, for example, you just can't find a home in a non-hoa area.

The .50 cent bill seems deliberately kind. I see it as them being nice to you so you'll pay on time next quarter.
