..................................................................................................................
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the galleys, heard in the very hall of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor - he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and wears their face and their garment, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation - he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city - he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. ∑ Cicero, 42 B.C.

I'm amazed that the police tracked him down. I bet he was too.

Though... I still think that public caning should be a viable punishment for this kind of crap. I was driving home the other night and there was a group of kids crossing the street.

It was raining mildly... but there was significant water on the road... and it hadn't rained in quite some time so we're talking snot-slick road surface hhere. The thing is, the kids kept running across the four-lane street - 40 MPH limit.

Apparently, they weren't trying to get across. They were dodging cars like it was some kind of contest to see who had the smallest brain. I was soarly tempted to pull over and watch. I sowanted to get a photo of a fatality. I dialed 911... waste of time... but eventually a county sheriff pulled up and chased them off.

People do stupid shit... without thinking of the consequences at all.

That's good police work to track him down. Wonder how they found him, witnesses? Informers?

What a moron.

I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

Those green lasers are awesome. I ordered one right after this incident occurred (thinking they might take them off the market).

I ain't gonna be pointing mine at no planes, however. Eek

What's truly amazing to me is that the people in both stories posted in this thread are GROWN MEN. In their 30's! I could see a stupid kid doing something like this, but how big of a loser do you have to be to do this in your 30s? Was world of warcraft no longer entertaining or what?

Just how intense are these lasers?

Are we talking laser pointing device like a Crimson Trace grip or laser like on the new and improved Death Star?

From your link:
quote:
...His lawyer, Gina Mendola Longarzo, said he was essentially a ''sacrificial lamb.'' She said that he would plead not guilty, and that on the evening of Dec. 29, he never intended to point the laser at the plane or hurt the pilots or six passengers inside.

''He ordered it online,'' she said, after the hearing. ''He uses it at work and as a gadget to look at the stars.'' ...

Just wondering if his attorney never used a hand-held laser, doesn't know they are worthless tools for "looking at the stars" or if she is just trying to pre-load the possible jurists with BBS.
The perp knew exactly what he was doing, he wasn't someone accidentally painting incoming aircraft.
JMHO.
