70s VH was and is amazing. High energy rock and roll. I admit I saw them a few years ago on their aborted reunion tour. Dave was funny and talked about his herding dogs, Eddies kid played guitar. I’ve blown $100 on worse. I like watching Dave’s interviews and self shows. He is hilariously funny and knowledgeable about a lot of esoteric things. At the end of the day the market will tell him when to quit. As long as tickets are being bought a promoter will book him. As soon as he can’t fill a hall, he’s done.

Hamden, the whole Ann and Nancy Wilson story is amazing. They have survived so much, and to see Ann healthy again and they are doing great. I would love to see them.

Para,

I agree the 'old' bands playing 'old' songs should stop. An exception, I humbly argue, is Iron Maiden. My reasoning is that they are still creating and their 'new' fans love the new stuff. You should see the kids in Brazil singing to the new stuff. When asked why they do not like to tour the USA they stated, they just want to hear the old stuff and relive the old days, thats now what we are about. I have a lot of respect for them.

**update**
well crap, it looks like the current tour is just "Legacy of the Beast" and is just the old songs. sigh, I guess Iron Maiden is just doing the classics now too. Frown

The Wilson sisters still amaze me.

Here's another impressive performance - Scorpions from Oct 2019. Klaus Meine at 71 can still sing. If I've linked it right this is the first Encore 73 minutes into the show.

Say what?

DLR is recording advertisements for his Vegas concerts and putting them out. He's calling them a podcast.

There is a podcast named, "who are these podcasts" that does reviews of terrible podcasts and mercilessly mocks them.

Their most recent episode is about these David Lee Roth podcasts and it's hilarious.

Yeah, I linked the wrong video. LZ were great in their prime. Not so much, later in their career. Excuse my mistake, please.

I agree with Para's post that old rockers should just retire. The modern casino circuit of old bands touring with almost none of the original members is just sad. But I will say that if an old rocker is down and out and needs money, that I do not blame them for trying to make a buck. I will certainly never attend any current show in the modern casino circuit. All the old bands are doing this. Total BS. But its how they make a buck and if folks want to see the shows, good for them. It is not for me. I saw these bands in their prime, and I play the original vinyl regularly. Thats good enough for me.

Big Grin I see. Robert Plant's post-zep stuff was pretty great though.

One of the guys I worked with saw them when they came through here a few years ago. He's an unapologetic music snob and he said that they were absolutely solid and he was impressed with their performance.

Yes it is. Agreed. I saw ALL of the great bands many times in the 70s and 80s and into the 90s. There are very few I would consider seeing today. Most of the current line-ups have very few (or none) of the original musicians. It is a money making machine using the name of the band to attract an audience. Casino circuit.

If they can still perform, and still draw a crowd, let them go.

I saw BB King in 2001 and he was 76 years old. He sat the entire concert reasoning that "I'm 76 years old and here to play, ya'll are sittin' so I'm going to sit too."

One of the best live performances I've ever seen. It was a small venue and you had the impression he'd walked out into his living room with a guitar and sat down to play a little.

Well, you see, the thing about Sammy Hagar is that he actually could sing.

I have seen many of these performers as quite a number of them work the casino circuit. Many of the performers were in their 70s and sounded great. Sadly, a number of them were pitiful. Bo Diddly could barely play his square guitar, Kris Kristofferson forgot the works to his songs. In contrast, Clarence Carter, Bobby Rush, and Jimmie Vaughn put on great performances. Natalie Cole was superb. Willie Nelson still gets by ok.

Saw VH at The Cincinnati Gardens in the mid 80's.

It was a hell of a show. However, I think half of those there, do not remember the show.

It is sad to see Dave like this, it reminds me I am getting old.

If I want to hear their music, I'll listen to their recordings.

Grow up. Stop conning people with your wrinkly old bullshit, your receding hairline and your failing memory. It's not rock and roll. It's sad, that's what it is. It's never again going to be 1985, and flailing around with your arthritic knees on some stage isn't going to change that.

Everyone grows old. Be a man and accept this unavoidable truth. Take off the clown suit. Take your wife or girlfriend to dinner. Just be normal.

It's kinda weird to see this kind of stuff.

As far as memory issues, tech takes care of that:

I don't like or cant handle when people disagree with me? Son, I have no problem with anyone here disagreeing with me. It's when you come dissecting my personal opinion in the manner in which you did that I have a problem. And don't for one second think that I couldn't sense the tone of that reply. Its disrespectful.

I am much older than you and have not yet thrown out my voice. I still have a long career in music with my voice still intact. Tough break for you, my friend.

Heal up. Get the vocal nodes removed. Learn some real world repertoire. Whatever you have to do. Then we can talk, smudge.

Anyway, ElToro has it about right with DLR. That's the truth. I'm sorry about this, Angus tK.

Not anymore. His lungs are toast. They're so bad he even gave up smoking dope. He did a duet on the CMA show a couple of weeks ago and was clearly struggling to move enough air to make a sound. I'm not a fan of his, but it was sad.

Do you feel better after your little snit fit? Razz

I was taking shots at David Lee Roth, not you. You took shots at me because you didn’t like “my tone.” You forgot to call me buddy, sport, champ, and tiger in your little tirade there, so I guess you feel like calling me “son” and “my friend” was being respectful while insinuating that I have blown vocal cords.

There’s nothing I need to do before again telling you that David Lee Roth cannot sing anymore. You wanna argue that, or do you want some salve for the butthurt for having your “opinion dissected?”
