Anyone removed a glued-on pickguard from an Acoustic guitar?
I see there are a bunch of YouTube videos and such, but I've not done it myself yet.

Anyone have (successful) first hand experience?

Any tips?

Thanks.

One thing to hear in mind is that the finish under the pickguard will have been exposed to different amounts of UV light and will look different from the rest of the top once you get the pickguard off. I've never done the job, but I have seen a few guitars that had it done cleanly. They all exhibited this effect, even on poly finishes.

Good point.

This one is getting painted anyway, so it won't matter in this case.

I know you've seen videos - but here is Dan Erlewine, a luthier par excellence.

And Frank Ford, another excellent luthier.

I have. Little heat from a hairdryer will help. Not too much, though. Some guys will use fishing line to help with the glue.

Oh, well there you go. Edmond's method is the one I'm familiar with, and the trick is to go slow. Good luck, man. Let us know how it turns out, yeah?
