I have written a number of posts for this thread and erased them. My FIL, who was also my best friend, had IPF. I watched him gradually give up the things he loved -- sell his plane and then his boats and then become unable to walk out to his shop.

He wanted to see me during his last hospitalization; he asked me to take care of his wife. After I left, his doc started a morphine drip and discontinued the supplemental oxygen.

The disease can progress rapidly or slowly. I pray that yours progresses slowly. May God bless you, sir.

Thanks to all.

It has progressed slowly, so far. When I was diagnosed in 2011, I was told that 80% died within 5 years of diagnosis, some within months, others years longer. No one could predict.

So here we are. I got my by mail ballot yesterday and will send it back early, just in case. I don’t want the God Damned Commies to have a chance to sneak in an absentee ballot in my name!

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

John 3:1-3: There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Born again means to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior.

John 3:15-17: that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Perish means being separated from Christ for eternity in the lake of fire

John 14:6: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
There's no other way to get to heaven except to accept Christ as your personal savior.

Mark 16:16: He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Condemned means to be separated from Christ for eternity, believing means to be with Christ for eternity

John 10:9: I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Acts 2:21: And it shall come to pass, That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.

Acts 4:12: Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

Acts 16:31: So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.

1 Timothy 2:3-4: For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Romans 10:9: that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Seriously though, your even keeled, non-patronizing, non-condescending, manner of posting has been example for me and helped me temper my tone. Your informative posts have made me wiser and more knowledgeable. For both, I thank you.

You will be missed.
