Looking for a Mechanic in DFW that is reasonable Login/Join

Anyone know any mechanics in the DFW area or how to find one? I used to have a mechanic buddy that would do small repairs as side work but don't know anyone in the DFW area. Car is going to be in need of routine and basic maintenance items. Its just hard to swallow $700+ on a brake job after having a buddy that I would bring the parts to and he wanted $100-150 for an hour of his time. Same thing with other items. If I get to the point where I can't find anyone I'm just going to have to get $200 in tools (jack stands, elec impact gun and torque wrench) and do it myself but I'd rather not. I used to he handy (did trans swap, clutch, intake and supercharger install on a 00' Mustang I had). Just dont have desire to do it.

Thanks!

Not -that- flexible. Really just looking for a sharp mechanic that does side work. Brakes, wheel bearings, shocks, etc. Small stuff, I bring the parts and they get money in their pocket for an afternoon of work. I just cant stand paying book time at 130/hr or whatever it is now a days.

If you have an Audi, VW, or BMW- there's none better than Tim's German Auto on White Settlement Rd. near downtown Ft. Worth.
Fantastic family owned shop that does great work for fair prices. Ask for Tim or his wife. I live in Southlake and Tim always gets my business on BMWs.

I don't know of a great shop around Grapevine, but I've heard good things about Christian Bros. shops.

Best of luck, Steve

Peterson's Automotive in Haltom City, it's been a few years since I've had to have anything done but they have been in business for a long time and were very fair in pricing.

I am sorry CMR but I have personal experience with Tiger, and he is the biggest crook in the cypress area, I worked across the street from him and saw firsthand the stuff that gives mechanics a bad rep. Once our shop got Autologic support we starting taking his business and seeing the crap that they sold people.

I'm in need of Nissan/Infiniti mechanic as well.

I just don't see a need to take an 8 year old car to a dealer for basic stuff.

Thanks.

I like MasterTech in Mesquite. Lonnie, the owner, is a friend of my Handyman and has always done good work on my cars. He even works on my 1966 Mustang (which dealers won't even look at).

wow, really? I haven't dealt with him in probably 5 years at this point, but when I was I had a few mutual customers with him that swore by his work.

Unfortunately my go to guy closed his shop and went to work directly for a commercial client he had. You might try Christian Brothers Automotive. They've got an number of shops throughout the metroplex and I've heard good things about them.

My dad likes morrisons. They are reasonable and trustworthy. They are in Kennedale which is a bit of a drive. I love pretty far north of the metromess and I am too cheap to pay anyone to work on my cars but if I were going to take one for general repair that is who I would go to. Now if we were talking transmission shops there is only one guy I trust and he is in Fort Worth but I would tow a car from anywhere in the state to him. Good luck in your search.

Christian brothers uses high pressure sales tactics and marks up parts about 400%, now My experience is at 3 different stores with 2 different franchises, all 3 stores operated the exact same way. They do good work, all the techs I worked with did anyhow, but the mark up is ridiculous.

CMR I wouldnt want you to go tarnishing your rep by rec'ing that guy to people. He is as sleezy as they come.

What kind of vehicle do you have , Empire? I don't remember.. we have a Lexus and a Toyota, the ONLY places I will let work on them are Davenport Motors in Colleyville and Dajda Automotive in North Richland Hills. I'm big in going to a "specialist", not just somebody that works on everything.

Edit..Davenport isn't cheap, but they'll never screw you (Lexus|Toyota only)

I had good luck with this place in the past.

Texas 10 Auto Service, 817-284-4124.

It is at the corner of Highway 10 and Precinct Line in Hurst.

I haven't used them in several years and it is a bit of a drive from the Grapevine area.

They get decent reviews but want almost $800 for a brake job. They said they don't turn rotors, only use new. Maybe I'm just being a cheapskate and I was fortunate enough to have a mechanic friend that did side work before. Its just hard to swallow double the cost on parts and $200+/hr for the work. I was really hoping that someone here was a mechanic or had one that did easy side jobs.
