We are visiting the son and his gf in Arlington today and we think we might want to check out Old Town Alexandria this afternoon and evening. Any recommendations on parking, restaurants, shopping etc? As always, any help is most appreciated.

Red Rocks pizza on King Street.

Torpedo Factory for walking around. Art and such.

Walk through the Masonic Temple

Been too many years since I lived there and the town has changed dramatically so I can't help much

Wish I could still say to go wander around Potomac Arms

There are some restaurants down near the City Dock, Chart House is decent and has a deck overlooking the Potomac, which is the reason you'd choose it, but the Fish Market, Chadwick's and the Wharf are OK as well, if overpriced. Nothing really standout, IMO. We really like Hard Times, it's an institution in Old Town, and a good value. They serve authentic chili, Texas, Cincinnati, Terlingua Red styles including Chili Mac all the way, as well as burgers wings and other stuff. If you're looking for a great joint with tasty comfort food and cold beer this is it.

I watched Superbowl XXXIX at Chadwicks. I liked that place. We used to start there on a Friday night for dinner and walk up King St and hit a few of the bars. Enjoyable place.

The wife and I did a haunted tour a few years back in Alexandria. Started in the old town square, slave auction area. The guide then walked us around and told all the ghost stories and legends. Very interesting and amazing history there.

Had a great afternoon and evening, beautiful weather. Ended up eating at The Wharf, as Hanks was slammed. Had a really good and expensive meal. Thanks to all.

If you are going to be there at night, Murphy's is the place to go. Live musicians playing Irish drinking songs.

Sorry to crap on your suggestion but Dogfish Head is a chain and would be close to a half hour away from Old Town.

There are much better places to get beer right in old town like Murphys, T.J. Stones, Lost Dog Cafe, etc.
