Thanks, people. Apparently, this form of cancer has such low survivability that Marky was basically written off by everyone except his immediate two specialists, who think there's a good chance that it's operable. If successful, he could actually live a fairly normal life on 1/3 of his liver, only some dietary restrictions. Marky was flown back from Iraq where he was serving, and is now at Walter Reed awaiting the operation. My best friend is with him now along with his ex-wife (Marky's mother) for emotional support. It's going to be a long week. | |||

Surgery is in less than 2 hours. The initial exploratory will tell them the extent of the tumor and whether it's worth it to continue. If it isn't then they will close right back up; if they deem it operable, they start the resection. Everybody is hoping for a long procedure today. Thanks again for all the spiritual support. | |||
