Daughter is taking care of a dog for a short time for some of her friends who just had a baby and the wife didn't want the dog in the house. We need to find him a home.

She's been trying to find it a good home, as she already has a dog, and we have one as well, it's a 6 year old cocker/lab mix, male, fixed, all shots and papers, good disposition, good guard dog, needs a good home he's fully housebroken dog this is Shilo in the Central FL area.

I'm going to guess about 45 to 50 pounds, he's not as big as a normal lab.

Next month it will be one year since Pippi's fatal stroke.

I'm not sure if I'm ready yet, but I'm not that far from you.

Can an "interview" be arranged?

I hate people like that.

Good on your daughter for stepping up. Hope he finds the home he deserves.

Dogs and babies sometimes do not mix.

My mother's dog, did not like a baby around at all.

He was jealous and protective of my mother.

He growled at the baby and she got rid of it to a good home.

She was not taking the change of him hurting her grandchild.

It's not always easy to find a good home for a baby.

This always fascinates me. Dogs...do not get to have opinions or attitudes. I had a little female black mutt similar to Shilo when my son was born. She was very tentative about the whole baby experience. Through patience and training, she learned she wasn't being replaced, and that an attitude toward the baby would not be tolerated. In the end, she and my son became the best of friends and she was with us for 14 wonderful years until she passed away.

Over and over again I tell people, and have seen firsthand for myself, bad behavior out of an animal is almost always a bad owner who doesn't have a clue how to handle a dog, not the dog itself.

And kennelling them is looked down upon.

Our lab growled at my daughter a couple of times when she came home (over the course of a couple of months).

I laid the dog down, and rested her on top of the dog for about 3 mins. 2 sessions of that and the lab knew who was knocked down a rung on the ladder.

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

That's exactly how we adopted our latest Standard Poodle Harley. The daughter moved back home with a newborn and the dog had to move out. I understand the emotion but what a great dog they let go of.

He is a lover, does anything you ask, does all kinds of cute little things and just wants to be loved, but damn at 80# he is hardly a lap dog.
