NH State Legislators just voted to raise the legal age of marriage to 16 yrs of age, up from .......13.

And they talk about the south.

So, if someone age 18 or older marries a 16 year old in that state, does consummating the marriage break the law?

The age of consent in NH is 16. An exemption exists re: 'Consent' for married couples.

Some additional factoids re: NH Laws of Consent:

The Minimum Age Requirement for a Marriage License is 14 for males, and 13 for females. Marriages between/involving minors require parental consent.

There is also a 'Romeo & Juliet' statute which applies to minors, over the age of 13, but under the age 16. Essentially if the 'defendant' is less than four years older than the 'victim', then the 'consensual' sexual conduct is only a 'misdemeanor' and the 'defendant' is not required to register as a sex offender.

Here's an interesting tidbit - Apparently the 16 YO Age of Consent applies to Heterosexual conduct only....for 'Gay Sex', the age of consent is 18.

Let me just state for the record here, that other that simply knowing that the Age of Consent in NH is 16, all other details I've posted here were learned through Internet Research AFTER opening this thread!
