The one site I looked at was pretty in depth on the issue even pointing out differences in packaging.

Again, while I doubt Costco is buying fakes, it might be worthwhile to look at that as a possibility.

All my Duracells are from Costco, same packaging, etc. I had not considered counterfeits though. Maybe I should take them with me next trip to Costco.

Any links to the Duracell issues?

Thanks. I saw that the other day, and was able to pretty much eliminate these as counterfeits, or at least blatant ones. I’m thinking of finding some Duracells from another source to compare.

We’ll see. Thanks!

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

A AAA battery should measure 1.5 volts when new. Something is wrong with them.

After an exchange of emails with Duracell's customer satisfaction people about the repeated failures I have had with their products lately, I suspect that at least some of their batteries are being made in foreign countries. A quick internet search showed these include India and China, where all good merchandise comes from.

Dealt with the company last year. They were great on doing the right think but were very concerned that I provide the date and numbers on the battery. Again cnterfiting.
As memory serves Costco and Sam's buy what looks like the same stuff you buy elsewhere but to their standards. So, yes Duracell but not a batter you'd find at ACE.

I would go with Energizer lithium. Had multiple Duracells leak in Hawaii (humidity, salt air?) and corrode remotes, etc.
Never a problem with Energizer lithium and it will last much longer.

Another problem I used to run into was corrosion on device electrodes. Over time corrosion will develop on the electrodes and that will lower the available voltage to the device. To fix I would use a simple eraser on a pencil to lightly abrade the electrode to remove it.

I wondered why you had a problem with an anti-aircraft artillery battery.
