This idea is nothing new, maybe for this size department but it has been done before.
Lincoln Heights Ohio (just outside Cincinnati) had their department disbanded granted it was a small department none the less it was disbanded.

I am sure there are numerous others across the country that have gone the same.

Others have merged county/city departments etc. Sometimes scorched earth is the best option I don’t know enough about Baltimore to say one way or another.

He would be the first to call 911 after the police disappeared and he felt threatened...Just like those ANTIFA thugs do whenever they are confronted.

Yeaaahhhhh riiggght. Let’s see how that works out for them. I mean by all means I am all for experimentation but my hypothesis is this will not end in a quantifiable result they will be happy with. But hell, have at it.

Honestly - it may be time. There is ridiculous corruption there - absolutely astonishing given the 'relatively' small size of the city (under 700k). Just absolutely rotten.

And let's face it crime can't get much worse. So I doubt Plan B would be worse than the status quo.

And the 'good' rank-and-file can't be very happy with the current state of affairs.

So then the County Sheriff would have to cover the city, right? How many city cops would become deputies then?

Baltimore City is an entirely indpendent municipality. It's bordered by Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County, and neither of us want it.

I'm not sure if we're all reading the same article here (or whether some have posted without reading it at all), but this isn't an anti-LEO suggestion. In fact, it's quite the opposite, I think. The suggestion is that the Baltimore City PD is so corrupt it's beyond fixing, and I think there's good evidence for that.

Of course, even rebuilding from the ground up will quickly go south, since the rest of the City government is pretty much corrupt. It's not like a new BCPD could be operated in a vacuum.

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

Something like this happened in NJ several years ago, more or less.
Camden (City) PD was disbanded, and the Camden (County) PD w as formed in its place. Supposedly as a cost saving measure... many of the former City cops signed on with the new County PD, but they took a pay cut. This also allowed them to shed a lot of dead wood.
I always thought that it was done primarily to weasel out of contract signed by city govt in past years, that deferred benefits to the cops until 'the future'. Once the future arrived, they didn't have the resources to pay up. Also busted up a pretty entrenched police union in the process.
Not the same thing I know, but this wasn't a podunk little PD we're talking about. And, like Baltimore, it's a shithole city.

Sounds like the state delegate suffers from rectal cranial inversion. Anything north of the Mason-Dixon Line has many screwed up politicians.

Yep... I know. My wife grew up in Ellicott City, outside Baltimore. It was a nice place back when she was growing up. Of course, Howard County was not Baltimore.

But it's not just Baltimore City. It's every major city in the US that has been controlled by Democrats for 50 years or longer.

Corruption is endemic to socialism. Socialism promises to "redistribute wealth" by taking from producers and "redistributing" to non-producers. Of course, the redistributors act as lords and overseers, keeping the best for themselves. Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.

Socialist-Democrats are just a group of thugs, producing nothing, but destroying everything.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Was thinking about this while driving to town yesterday. We have city police, county police, state police and local sheriff departments. Seems like it might make things a little more efficient with perhaps 2 departments. County and state.

We had a merger and are known as an Urban County Goverment. All Law Enforcement Duties are done by the Police Department and all non-enforcement actions like court duties, paper/legal services, funeral escorts, etc. are handled by the Sheriff's Office. The jail is one of itself separate of those entities for the entire county.
