There are certain Islamic sects that don't eat lobster - it is haram or forbidden.

Roll Eyes indeed. Islam has nothing to do with it.

Roll Eyes to you too. Is it a problem when a president you do like eats lobster?

I was really just joking. I did read the article, it was tongue-in-cheek, and it actually seemed like a satirical piece. If it really was a safety issue, they have one agent that tests the food? No backup?
No one else got sick, and you would think they would have asked the President's preferences prior to his visit.
I don't get why he said no. kind of disrespectful to the hosts, no?

I can't eat lobster or shellfish because I'm Jewish - I don't get why he passed up a great sounding menu.

A food taster? Really? Wouldn't there be technology to test for toxins and poisons in 2013 more readily? Sound goofy to me....

Joking or tongue-in-cheek, the Muslim thing is worn out, and not at issue here. Because when "taster" comes up, "Monarch" comes up.

I don't know if the president has a taster, or if any presidents in modern history have. It's not really at issue for me, unless he is demanding something not afforded previous presidents. The idea of a taster certainly sounds like satire, and it is puzzling why the entire meal was passed on. It certainly is a snub to the host.

I am not sure a president that I do like would be so presumptuous as to tell me what I should eat, or what I should feed my kids for lunch, and then seek to enforce it.

Yes, it is. I think it's an issue anytime someone who's paid by the taxpayers partakes of that with the taxpayer themselves can't afford. And this president virtually goes out of his way to make sure we all know that he and his family are not subject to anything the rest of us are. The words empathy or respect are not a part of his, or many like him, language.

Bush had one too -

quote:

AS if the Queen hasn't got enough on her plate accommodating all President Bush's security demands, the Secret Service have put a food taster into the Buckingham Palace kitchens.

Nothing is being left to chance by the Americans, who have assembled the largest security operation seen in London for the three-day visit.

According to sources, everything that is destined to be served up for the President has to be tasted first.
