Yes, it is suddenly smoky where I live. That often shows you that if you start and try, things have a way of working out.

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. Want more in life? Be more.

As a Marine, he was probably accustomed to long marches in recruit training. That night, he had no one ordering him to walk those 20 miles. Solid young man.

The two lines that got my attention the most.

"After the moving job was done, Lamey, impressed by Carr's determination, shared his story on Facebook."

He did not do it to impress anyone or post a video on facebook, twitter or anything else and

Carr said. "My body was like, 'What was you thinking?' I had to get the job done."

I only wish this young man was the type of worker in the majority nowadays.

Great story. Thanks for sharing it.

I have always admired Marines.

Way back, when I knew that it was my time to serve, I did not think that I had what was needed, physically, to be a Marine. So I enlisted in the Navy and became a missile systems geek. But the Marines have always had my respect.

This is a good example of how Boy Scouts and military training ought to be sought by every boy and young man, in the spirit which it is intended.

Personal responsibility... they were counting on him.

The virtues one is exposed to don’t always just pop up out of nowhere, and it doesn’t hurt to give them a try.

Like nearly everything having to do with humans, it doesn't always work out, but that’s the chance you take.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I heard the Marines invented Sex, but those of us in the Air Force introduced it to Women.

How I wish the media would make an effort to both actively seek out and report on more of these types of stories daily (they really do exist out there). We'd all be the better for it.

This is a story that reflects positively on everyone involved. The young man, for sure, and those who brought him up. The CEO. Even the homeowner who let him rest before getting on with the business at hand.

And, not least, some very helpful LEOs Smile

quote:
He made it about 14 miles to Pelham when police officers stopped him on the side of the road around 4 a.m.

"He was like, 'Where are you going?' and I was like, 'It’s hard to believe, it’s going to sound real crazy, but I’m actually headed to work.'" Carr said.

When they heard his story, the officers decided to take him to breakfast at Whataburger and made sure he got something for lunch, too.

Carr said the officers debated for a little while where they could safely drop him off and eventually landed on First Methodist Church. The officers said they would send someone to check on him.

Proud to have encountered this young man. He certainly made an impact on us!#PelhamPD#belikewalterpic.twitter.com/d0zz0PMvnv

Carr rested for a while before he started walking again. He had less than 4 miles to go when another officer pulled up to check on him.

"He said, 'Are you Walter Carr?' and he was like, 'Get in the car, I got you,'" Carr said.

The officer dropped him off at the home of Jenny Hayden Lamey, who Carr was scheduled to help move that day.
