You can add NY to the list. I'm soooooo much safer now...... Roll Eyes

That is a very real problem. In the name of trying to help someone you create a tool that more often than not will be used to hurt people.

"Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. When it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it....While it lies there, it needs no constitution, no law, no court to save it"

This asshat is just using his son's cowardice as an excuse for infringing on other's rights. The kid could have jumped off a bridge and he probably would have tied it to firearms.

Know what the effective range of an excuse is? Exacly zero meters.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
C. S. Lewis
English essayist & juvenile novelist (1898 - 1963)

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

That needs a repeat, it describes the heart of socialism. In the name of helping helping someone in need, socialists become self-serving tyrants.

If the family is so concerned, then get the person help. If it takes a forced entry to a facility to deal with it, then get the medical documentation to do it.

Do they really think that tasking their firearm will stop someone truly intent on it? We had people walk in front of a truck on a highway. Stand in front of a passenger train.

Years ago I dealt with one of our frequent flyers on a minor criminal mischief charge. After getting his summons to appear, he went home and hanged himself. You never know .
