I have noticed in some threads that are discussing a serious topic, and everyone is legitimately participating, someone often chimes in with sarcasm directed toward the actions of the liberal/socialist movement going on (thread crapping).

i.e.

Ban ____ or label is an "assault ____” then ban it.
Tell ____ it’s not their fault.
Give ____ a free ____.
Explain to ____ they are being oppressed.
It’s happening to ____ because of ____ privilege.

I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be sarcasm. But if you’re going to be sarcastic, at least be original.

Regurgitating the same old, lame shtick and just adding the situation at hand doesn’t make it funny. When I start to read someone is posting this, I tend to skip their entire post.
I would think this is probably felt the same by most who read the threads and are involved in the discussion.
I guess part of it is respect. I respect most of the people here, and while I may choose to not be involved in a discussion for whatever reason, I think it’s disrespectful to the OP as well as the contributors of the thread, to crap in it with the same lame joke.

Maybe I’m just getting old and lame. There’s a good chance of that as well.

I agree, Beancooker, but you have to understand that for some people that is all they are capable of.

I agree with bean counter. Original sarcasm can often be funny and enhance the discussion. Using the some re-warmed trope is just irritating.

I don't know. But, as far as I'm concerned, if something minor like those start to bug me, I just need to take a chill pill and go enjoy something else for a bit. Btw, shouldn't this be in the Pitch Your Bitch section? Razz

Yeah.... but, sarcasm is a form of humor. Original humor, like all original thought really, isn't easy. It's best when it's spontaneous. Top comedians are well paid and usually have a staff of writers. They work hard at making it seem spontaneous. It ain't easy.

Lighten up, Francis.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Sometimes, maybe, if too early in the thread especially, but after the original point has been made and thrashed over fairly well it's fine...

Also fine because it can sometimes bump a slow thread that may have more value or need more attention than it is being given otherwise.

AND...

With over 85k members I find the decorum of the forum in general very very good. Thanks Para!

Everyone has those moments when something pops into their head that might best be let go... Myself, I type and delete almost as many comments as I end up posting.

for a while I was using the "Ignore This Member" feature, or whatever it's called. This helped a lot, but I think I'm only ignoring a couple of people, if any, now.

Oh, worst case is when a good thread is underway, and someone gets it locked. Roll Eyes

Usually when I see a comment that's been overposted or "circle talked" to death, that's when I apply the comment copiously to all subjects available. Basically, I see that it's annoying to me and share the wealth. "Buff right out?" yeah, that's overdone, so we'll just spread that around for ol' beany boy to enjoy.... Big Grin
