“An Oklahoma man was out celebrating his 57th birthday when he came across a rattlesnake on a road and attempted to move it, but was bitten twice and died.

Barry Lester was driving in his pickup truck with his relatives on their way to Walnut Creek on Sunday when he spotted the timber rattlesnake in the middle of the road in Osage County.

Lester pulled over, approached the venomous reptile and grabbed it behind its head, as he had done many times before over the years…”

I've got an idea for the next GEICO commercial. "If you mess with a rattlesnake, it will bite you. It's what they do."

That's probably me some day. I can't stand by and see some animal in distress. Fortunately, I run into no rattlesnakes.

I have friends, long time childhood friends, who live for rattlesnake catching and the Rattle Snake Derbys. Yep, just Google Rattle Snake Derby. They catch hundreds and hundreds of pounds of rattlers this time of year.

Yes, they're nuts. They're the same guys who Noodle catfish. Nuts.

Me? I'm not, I don't catch snakes. I carry a 12 gauge. If they see a snake they don't want, then it's mine and Mr pump action Buckshots turn.

The actions of that snake are some of the most selfish I have ever seen! And then he was turned loose in the end - where's the karma!

I though DEATH from rattlesnake bites was actually extremely rare.

Do we trust stories from dailymail.co.uk ?

I grabbed a big gopher tortoise out of the middle of US-1 in Cocoa some years back. Nearly got hit, and the tortoise wasn’t thrilled, but made it to the side he was headed towards. Would never have risked it with a rattlesnake. Not no way, not no how.

Thanks, saved me the trouble.

I'd have swerved to avoid it if I could do so safely, but pick it up and move it?

Nope, nope, nope...

Venomous snake bites are relatively common in Oklahoma and across the United States, but deaths are extremely rare."

Depends on the type. The Timber Rattler is probably the most deadly due to amount and type of venom. We see lots of Diamondbacks bites around here. The only fatal bite I have heard of locally was from a Timber Rattler.

while driving last Sunday, I saw a copperhead enjoying the warmth of the blacktop on my street. I adjusted course and ran him over, then backed up and did it again. It was nice to see that a feathered friend was enjoying a nice grilled snake lunch when I returned home.

I like snakes, but poisonous ones will be exterminated with prejudice. A baby copperhead bit my dog last year and my wife almost stepped on one right by our back door.

This would be me, too. I've gotten turtles and a couple of snakes out of the road.

No rattlers, yet, but a fellow in front of me out on a desert road did chase one off the road, we watched.
