This guy looks like he got a good ride! I just wonder what was going through his mind when decided to Kite surf during a Tropical Storm.

What dumbass decides it's a good idea to hang onto a big kite in 60MPH+ winds?

Another Darwin award contestant. Apparently he's pretty badly injured and I hope he gets better, but, what a dumbass.

Sucks that he's hurt, but... oh, man... that was funny.

Perhaps that wasn't the brightest idea that he has had today...

To some people 60 MPH winds means stay at home, Board up the windows and doors. But Noooooo not this guy.

... At what point do you think he realized his mistake? Was it when he got pounded into the sand? Was it mid-flight when he saw what was looming ahead (a building!)? Or was it not until impact? Another Xtreme sportsman.

I think, it was probably about the time his feet left the ground he probably realized it was a bad idea.

Oh, my gosh - that's quite the lapse in judgment. I can't believe they showed it twice.

Hope he ends up ok.

It's difficult to tell for certain... but it looks like he DID hit the side of the building. I also notice that he apparently wasn't the only one out there.

No... I suppose it's not funny that he got hurt, but maybe he should have let go after the first time he face-planted in the sand... that's the part that I thought was funny.

Anyway, before I'm attacked I should say that I used to hang with a few semi-pro & pro skater and biker guys and we used to sit around and watch videos of themselves and some other people biting it just as hard as that... some ended up in the hospital, but we still got a laugh out if it.

Hell, I even wiped out hard attempting to do a downhill that I was totally not experienced enough for, and I ended up in the hospital. Granted, I wasn't in critical condition, but I look at it now as pretty stupid and totally hilarious.

The man chose to be an idiot and put himself in that situation, so something tells me that he'll have a laugh about it too someday.

If not, then maybe he'll think twice about kite-surfing in the middle of a hurricane.

I feel sorry for his employer. Then again it might be something I would have tried many years ago. Frown

You know what's interesting? It's interesting that some members think that putting a little winky face at the end of their statement makes it OK for them to openly question my comments or rulings. I'm here to tell you that that little winky face does no good.

I added the emotion because I posted my comment as a friendly ribbing, not pointed criticism.

I wasn't questioning your comment, I just made an observation because the post immediately before Addison's, made mention to Darwin.

Rule one of kite surfing, when it can tear off a roof, you don't think "gee, good time to get out my new gear!"

Shoulda dropped the lines on the first attempt at being a sand dart!

It's not funny that he's in critical condition, I feel for him, but STUPID SHOULD HURT!

Catholics, we're not here for a long time. We're here for a good time!

Dumb@ss if you ask me. Endangered himself and others around him. Sorry to hear he's injured but I think that was probably to be expected.

I have a few kites, two of which can be stacked to increase pull-force and lift you off the ground. My big-@ss has been dragged across an open field in 30ish Mph winds. It's pretty freaky.

These guys obviously have setups specifically for kite surfing, but to lose control puts everyone around at risk. Some of my kites have been clocked (by pros) diving at over 100 Mph in normal (20-30 mph) winds. Not only was the guy a human "missile" his gear could have seriously injured bystanders.
