The #WalkAway Movement Is Taking America By Storm

At now over 100,000 members in its Facebook group and widespread international media coverage, the #WalkAway movement of former Democrats telling their stories about why they left their party has resonated deeply with a core feeling currently in the American people.

Started by NYC hairstylist Brandon Straka in late May the movement has caught flame because it speaks to how the Democratic Party of today, where far-left sentiments ranging from universal socialist programs to demonizing our first responders and border control, to questioning the very goodness of America itself, are edging closer to gaining a seat at the table.

We are a far ways away from the Democratic Party that stood as a big tent party that governed America for much of the 20thcentury, and which led us through World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, through much of the fight against Communist aggression in the Cold War both domestically and internationally, and even as a moderate and pragmatic governing force under President Bill Clinton.

When we see far-left socialists topple long-standing Democratic moderates and liberals, as “democratic” socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently did in New York City, and that they aren’t immediately shunned but rather absorbed into the mainstream as a potential new path forward that signifies a worrying and historic shift for our country.

Over the past few decades millions upon millions of former Democrats have left their party and become either independents or Republicans, whether liberals who turned conservative or “Reagan Democrats” that found there was little room anymore in the Democratic Party for conservatives and the center-right.

They have made an impact at the ballot box, as they were found to be essential behind President Donald Trump’s 2016 election victories in Rust Belt states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

As a former Democrat myself, I have spoken frequently in the national media in recent years on this trend because it is one that I feel speaks deeply to the current political and cultural movements happening in our country.

Like I said on Fox & Friends the other day, the far-left has in recent years slowly been trying to gain a foothold in our country’s mainstream through fronts such as “Occupy Wall Street” and “Antifa.”

There are many moderate, liberal, and even progressive Democrats still in-place who find this trend just as worrying as many on the right do. Unfortunately they find themselves being shut down as well by the extreme voices in their party, which remain a small group though they slowly grow their ranks and influence through misinformation and intimidation.

It is unfortunate for our country that one of our country’s oldest political institutions, the Democratic Party, has become such a mangled mess. After all, this is the party of Jefferson, FDR, Truman, JFK, and so many others who have built America into what it is today. It is the party that fought for the working-man when he was truly downtrodden and that provided shelter and integration to the tens of millions of immigrants to our shores in the 19thand 20thcenturies.

The two-party system keeps our country healthy and is one of the most beautiful aspects of American democracy, as it keeps a level of stability and moderation which prevents political fracturing, extremism, and unrest. Just like with the free market, eventually the system balances due to electoral demand and supply – however in the meantime the growing process may be painful.

In the meantime we now see how millions of former Democrats have now taken up residence in the Republican Party, comprising a large portion of the party and even perhaps a plurality or majority. Indeed, in 2012 columnist George Will accurately described how “[They] were called "Reagan Democrats" when they were considered only seasonal Republicans because of Ronald Reagan. Today they are called the Republican base."

We saw the full impact of this firsthand during the 2015 and 2016 presidential primaries, when it was precisely this enormous base of ex-Democrats in the GOP that propelled then-candidate Donald Trump, himself an ex-Democrat, to his series of seemingly unstoppable victories.

No one knows what the future will hold, but it is clear that the current state of American ideological organization is a market situation that is unsustainable and shifting. It will eventually find equilibrium, but in the meantime the #WalkAway movement is hopefully one that will wake up more and more on both sides of the aisle to the far-left risks at play in our country and the tenuous fragility of our current political situation.

Pertinent to this thread, this opinion piece in USA Today has the same exact message. This excerpt has a nice Matrix reference-

quote:

I’ve been a loyal Democrat for about 15 years. As someone who became a citizen in 2006, I became a Democrat during the George W. Bush years, because I liked the party’s anti-war, pro-minority, pro-environment, pro-little guy positions.

But the 2016 election was an eye-opener for me. To use the current political jargon, I became “woke,” in some very different ways, and I got “red-pilled.”

This is the biggest part of this movement. Think about all the next door neighbors to those deplorables in fly over country. They don't align with the insanity that is going on. Their party has changed and are now at odds with them. Not only has the party gone off the deep end, but they openly mock their own backers by calling people who don't live in the enlightened coastal cities stupid.

Keep running on open boarders, higher taxes, and free shit for all guys please. Also make Nancy, Maxine, and that chick from NY the face of your party.

Also keep up the screaming about the Russians and Trump Derangement Syndrome. Good people will see the direction of country, bigger paychecks, lower unemployment, more US factories, and more results internationally. The evidence is all right there, no one wants the opposite of these things, Bill Maher may be praying for The Great Depression 2.0. No sane person will hope for bad things to happen to their country.

^^^ There's one for the sociologists: at what point do repeated demands for loyalty when the 'team' is full of shit actually start driving loyalists away?

OTOH, it's an absolute gas (B Flat with a little reverb) to see the Dems' overweening sense of entitlement working in our favor.

She said that she believes many conservatives voted for the president because of the potential opportunity to move the Supreme Court.

"I think he should be bold like he's always been," Okafor said of the president's upcoming nomination.

"Conservatives will appreciate it and we're going to definitely be in support of him in 2020 if he continues this bold path that he's been on before."

The president can move the court firmly to the right with Supreme Court selection, with the four finalists believed to be four appeals court judges: Brett Kavanaugh, Raymond Kethledge, Amy Coney Barrett, and Thomas Hardiman.

And that's just the VOCAL "walk-aways". No telling how many are walking away that are maintaining their silence for one reason or another (probably best that way).

Yep. No telling what is in the heart of the silent voter until the ballot is cast. By then it is too late. Surely any Leftists not deranged yet will see that this movement is a threat.

Well I guess that gay hair dresser from the Bronx is actually a Russian agent or something, according to salon.

Now presenting your #1 search result for #walkaway, the facebook group doesn't even appear in search results. Curious.

How the #WalkAway Campaign is Drowning the Blue Wave Democrats
Joy Overbeck Joy Overbeck |Posted: Jul 11, 2018 12:01 AM Share (225) Tweet

How the #WalkAway Campaign is Drowning the Blue Wave Democrats

The #walkaway campaign is now over 100,000 strong in just a few weeks. These are former liberals who have discovered, as its founder Brandon Straka says in his video, “the Democratic Party’s greatest and most insidious lie:” That without them, you are nothing. As Straka puts it, “They will insist that you are a victim doomed to exist within a system that is rigged against you…that you are a victim of systematic oppression…that you are a victim of your circumstances, and no amount of hard work or motivational action will ever allow you to overcome your victimhood or the privilege of those around you.”

In rejecting the Greatest Lie, the members of #walkaway are rejecting the Democrats’ only recruitment tool – victimization. Those walking away are rebels, an “awoke” army declaring their freedom as individuals, claiming their futures and their very lives. They’re ringing an echo of the patriots of 1776.

As Candace Owens of TurningPointUSA put it in her electrifying speech onstage at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, they are fleeing the plantation of Democrat servitude. Most of all, they are awakening to the self-actualization and fierce can-do spirit that is at the very core of the American experiment.

You can see it in the fired-up grit, and often in the tears of the hundreds who have posted their own videos on the site or written about their “walk away” moments. Most are first-timers at expressing themselves on video but each story vibrates with authenticity.

There’s a Memphis woman who introduces her young nephew, a St. Jude Hospital cancer survivor. She had tweeted a thank-you to Eric Trump for the Trumps’ $16 million contribution to the charity, and she’s furious at the cascade of Twitter attacks from left-wingers that she’s endured for thanking Trump.

A woman who describes herself as liberal is married to a Navy vet who became a Trump voter. She says, “I was horrified that our friends now say I married a racist, homophobic, misogynist, horrible man. My Facebook page is just cancer, people hating on each other. I won’t be voting for a party that accuses everybody of being racist.”

There’s a gay man who says when he came out as a Trump supporter he was “called a Nazi, a self-hating fas$$$$...the gays and liberals have been ruthless towards me. I was never treated this way coming out of the closet as gay.” He speaks for many when he laments the loneliness he’s endured shunned by his “tribe” and vilified on social media. But then he rejoices that “I am so happy to see so many people bravely standing up now…. now I don’t feel so alone either.”

Each of these testimonial posts is followed by dozens of welcoming responses and thank-yous from others on the site who identify with the speaker because of what they too have endured from leftist haters when they’ve walked away. #walkaway is becoming a family.

These are people who have been watching. They’ve watched the lefty students in Berkeley and other colleges rioting violently against conservative speakers, throwing pies at Ann Coulter, going berserker against Milo and banning Ben Shapiro. They’ve seen that vicious “comedian” holding Trump’s bloody fake head and her fellow “comedian” calling Ivanka Trump foul names. They’ve watched football players in the only nation on earth where they can make millions running around a field; disdain the flag of that nation.

They’ve seen regular people wearing Make America Great Again hats getting beat up and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen driven rudely from restaurants by crazed screeching Trump-haters.

They’ve watched the media lie about Trump and attack his pro-American policies that are improving their lives. They’ve seen the president called a racist, a misogynist, and a Russian bot with no evidence except a “dossier” of fake accusations by unnamed accusers, paid for and promoted by the Democrat Party and the Hillary Clinton campaign. They’ve watched San Francisco millionaire Nancy “Crumbs” Pelosi mock the Trump tax cuts that are actually fattening their paychecks and giving their families better lives.

And lately they’ve seen an elected representative of the people of California, Democrat Maxine Waters, inciting violence and urging people to hunt down Trump administration staff and flash mob them so they aren’t safe in restaurants, shopping malls, anywhere. The Democrat party faithful that became #walkaway watched all this and said WHOA! The Republicans aren’t the intolerant mob – the Democrats are. The Republicans aren’t the haters – the Democrats are.

Hip hop mogul Kanye West may have inadvertently given the future walk-awayers a shot of courage a few months ago when he tweeted “I love how Candace Owens thinks.” Immediately he was vilified as a traitor to the left and peppered with rage by his famous black “brothers” in the entertainment industry. The storm only got wilder when he tweeted, “You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother.” And shot out a picture of a MAGA hat – signed by Trump!

Candace Owens herself along with the founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, recently held a strategy summit with a couple dozen players in the movement, most of them black. These patriots have thousands of subscribers to their own longtime YouTube channels, like Anthony Brian Logan (191,000 subscribers), David J. Harris Jr., (34,000 subscribers --(Facebook cancelled his page) and ex-police officer Brandon Tatum (137,000 subscribers).

Powerful, smart, conservative voices have a lot to say about what’s wrong with Democrats. They talk about the revelation that the Democrats WERE the raging KKK, the Democrats hung black men from trees, the Democrats kept blacks from voting, the Democrats were against the Civil Rights legislation of 1964.

Brandon Tatum’s stunning video, “Democrats Hate Black People” has over 110,000 views. He says he couldn’t believe it when he found out the Democrats started the KKK – he always thought it was the Republicans. And what are the Democrats doing now? “They’re picking illegals over black people because they want the next voting bloc, and that’s illegals. They don’t care about you and your families. They want a population of ignorant people they can control. What did Barack Obama do for black people? Nothing…I really wish people would wake up. I got my MAGA hat on and I wear it because I’m a person with a brain and I’ve decided to walk away and be independent as a thinker… We need to walk to the light…”

Too many people are waking up and walking to the light – black, Hispanic, white, LGBT. The #walkaway campaign will be a world-changer for the Democrats this Midterm election. Leftists and liberals – get yourself a nice bathing suit – there’s a red wave on the horizon.

This movement really has some legs to it - it seems to be picking up steam

Hoping the Democrat party continues to pay the price and is left in tatters but I would be remiss if I didn't seem a bit concerned that these #WalkAway folks will water the conservative pool down with liberal opinions and actions - along the same lines of destroying places like California or New York then relocating because of what they did and then doing exactly the same things that they did to where they just left - Colorado, Florida for example...

I can only hope that along with their walk comes a change in their views
