Yes, that would make sense. Just a filter that gets backwashed; and bad valves/seals might send that garbage and air into the plumbing?
I don't know how tall the tank is, about 2 feet above ground, could be a lot more below grade.

Yep, they bury them tanks 2-3 feet in the ground.

Run a backwash cycle or two, should clear out the mud?
