Long story short-should have listened to smlsig and gone with Verizon PrePaid.

I should explain that we live 5 miles west of a city of 50K, 9 miles east of a town of 7K, and 2 miles north of a major interstate, so we're not exactly in BFE.

Tried T-Mobile and it didn't work out. In our area, at the present, time T-Mobile does not compare to Verizon, or even ATT in the rural areas. At the house we had 5 bars signal strength with ATT (although a 3G phone, don't know if that is a factor). During the trial period with T-Mobile we had 1-2 bars and sometimes were unable to make a call, even over Wi-Fi, which no one could explain. T-Mobile signal was weak unless in the city or on a highway.

We switched to Verizon and I was surprised that we still have only 1-3 bars at home but can make cellular or Wi-Fi calls that are very clear. In truly rural areas we have yet to completely lose a signal.

Sitting in Anchorage right now. Three bars. Last few days, one bar in Chicago, two bars in Honolulu, two bars in Los Angeles. And so on. Same on the ipad, also running tmobile. The phone is an iphone 11. If there's signal, it should be picked up on the phone. Tmobile assures me that I just need to be in a more urban area. I'm not sure how one gets more "urban."

They also claim international service...very weak, and despite it supporting calls and text and data, I just got an extra seventy something bucks on the last bill because I checked my schedule, while in Italy. They don't mean what they say, apparently.

Living on the border, everything was crap. Sprint/T-Mobile is now much better since we got 5G phones. It’s like they were spending money on that system and none on 4G.

It looks like ATT 55+ is nationwide. Only Verizon is FL only.

Those two 55+ plans seem to be Florida based only. In any case, it got me to review my AT&T plan and the need for a possible switch.

Back in the day when I was still riding my Harley, I seem to always have service in WA, ID, MT, WY etc. in remote areas with Verizon but not with AT&T as much. Most of my daughters live in Coeur d' Alene, ID area and Verizon seems to be the default choice over there for them.

I may go with VZN or TMO if I switch..
