so·cial·ism
ˈsōSHəˌlizəm/

a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
synonyms: leftism, welfarism; More
radicalism, progressivism, social democracy;
communism, Marxism, labor movement

(in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Not surprising.

Remember those college students who believed that the USA fought against France in WW2?

Or the ones who insisted that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her front porch? AIR, that was actually a SNL skit.

Just let them refer to the video Para posted of the girls that robbed the little nine year old selling Girl Scout cookies.
They took what they wanted because they wanted it.
Same mentality and concept.

Useful idiots. Stupid people are too stupid to know how stupid they are.

These fools always seem to believe those with less can be brought up to a better level without regard for bringing others down to enable it. They fail to realize to accomplish this end likely requires resources in such an amount as to deem them above that threshold.

In other words, it's all good with them as long as it's someone else doing the sacrificing. There just ain't enough money to do it without them taking a hit. Let's see how they feel about that.

The US actually did fight against French forces in World War II. The French briefly resisted the invasion of North Africa and casualties were suffered on both sides. The fighting was obviously not on the same scale as against the Germans, Japanese, or even the Italians, but it did occur.

Vichy France, not the France that most people think of.
Do you think any of the people on that video would know who that refers to, or what century that happened, or who fought in that war or why?
That's the root of the problem.

An interesting distinction. I never thought of the question in terms of the “No true Scotsman” argument.

The armed forces we fought were made up of Frenchmen operating ships and equipment owned by the country of France and under the command of French generals and admirals. If that didn’t make them French, I cannot imagine what would have. Were de Gaulle and his followers in the U.K. the only real French? The US obviously considered the Vichy regime to be “France” because our formal recognition of the government continued until Germany occupied all of the country after the invasion of North Africa.

So, yeah, the US fought against France in World War II. Briefly.

And my point is not that such people are stunningly ignorant, but what the historical facts are. Their ignorance—or the ignorance of other people—doesn’t change the historical fact that the US fought French forces in the war.

I understand that Orwell was at one time a socialist, until he saw the reality of Stalinist Russia, thus Animal Farm "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal". Socialism is gov't of the people, by the elite, for the elite.

Perhaps not basket weaving, but CEOs of corporations, Governors of states, and key roles within the Government. Also members of the media. That's why this is scary. Otherwise, I wouldn't care :-)

But were those Vichy forces in fact in support of the Nazis?

There was a guy that called Rush last month that said the US attacked Japan unprovoked during WWII. He had no idea what happened at PearlHarbor, or what it was. He was a college graduate, not that it means much today, the lack of knowledge they have is staggering.

Just fcuk. On the whole whole ignorant mess we have got ourselves into where the official, Webster definiton of 'fact' will be transmogrified to:

Fact: NOUN

1 a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on observation or research:

2 The beliefs or views of a large number or majority of people about a particular thing.

edited to add: fcuk

Two sidenotes. Around the 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor there were some PBS documentaries on the subject. A Japanese history scholar (US educated) commented "it wasn't until preparing for this interview I connected Hiroshima with Pearl Harbor". Roll Eyes

Two years ago my then 9 yr old grandson called and asked "grandpa, what is the connection between Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor? (He has since asked me what really started WWI).

Also a note on today's college environment. A dominant theme on many college campus' today is Social Justice, ie, diversity-tolerance-equality, ie, demean America founders and founding principles as racist.

They don't want real, actual socialism. (State ownership of the means of production, etc.) They want more welfare and public benefits.

They are ignoramuses.
