Seems to work just fine no matter the type. But sure enough every brand butter, extra butter, kettle corn, whatever all say don’t use the popcorn button.

The popcorn button isn't enough time, at least on my microwave. I hit the popcorn button twice and touch start.

I would guess that microwaves and popcorn have too many variables for a one-size-fits-all preset. On my personal microwave, the popcorn setting is 2:20. I have found this to be too long, the hard way.

Thinking the little thermal radiation pads in the bottom of the bag don't all work the same?

Because the popcorn company does not want their product to be misrepresented due to improper microwave settings.

Most people would probably blame the popcorn before the microwave.

My microwave has a moisture or steam sensor of some sort and stops the nuking right when it should.

Everyone is close to saying the real reason. It’s the fear that it is on too long and catches fire. I think they all say a time estimate but to listen for popping to slow down. They don’t want to be sued for a house fire.

These go to eleven.

They should make the popcorn button customizable so you can dial it for the perfect time.

Don't the tubes in microwaves deteriorate over time? So what works when it's new will probably need time added to it after the machine has been used a number of hours.

My microwave has a steam, temp, and audible sensors, so the popcorn is never over done. Some bags take 2:25, some take 2:50.

The problem I have is that it seems like it cooks at 85% or so and leaves a lot of unpopped kernels. I've tried new bags, I've added time, even cooked it on high by watching it, still get a lot of waste.

I just end up popping a second bag for sharing with the family.

I guess the button on my Maytag is straight magic. Every bag big, small, butter, no butter, kettle, boom chicka pop all done just right.

I always use the "popcorn" button. Works fine most of the time. Once in a while have too many unpopped kernels, but usually only a few. I buy only "no butter" popcorn--Orville Redenbacher "natural". I don't want ANY butter. (And it's hard to find it in the stores.)

I quite buying those bags of popcorn years ago... too much crap added to them...

I use one of the microwave popcorn bowls.... yes, I know they don't work that well but with a little attention it is better.... and that way I get to make my own melted butter (REAL BUTTER) and the amount of salt I want.

Popcorn maker doesn't want liability for a fire. Last three fire alarms we've had at work were due to microwave popcorn. Overdone popcorn makes more than enough smoke to set off the smoke sensors.

Every microwave I've had would have a few popcorn options depending on the size of the bag. My current machine has 3 settings. Press Popcorn once for 1.2 oz bag, twice for 2.5 oz, 3 times for 3.5 oz. Does yours just automatically detect it? If so that's pretty cool.

These go to eleven.

I guess you hit the popcorn button once and start it starts up and the screen says sensing for a few seconds and then starts a countdown and it is always spot on no matter what brand, flavor, or bag size I put in.

Honestly never tried to hit the button more than once. I’ll try it next bag and see.
