Kind of a strange "protest" to conduct alone, in the bathroom. Story even says none of the witnesses intially knew he was carrying a gun.

Much more likely that this was a negligent discharge on top of illegally carrying a firearm in a restricted area. How to cover for oneself under such dubious circumstances: blame Trump, of course.

This sounds very plausible. I'm glad he identified himself as a liberal by blaming Trump.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I agree, the entire incident is questionable at best.

You guys are being too kind to this moron.

I find it more plausible that the leftist lunatic planned this "protest", given the crazy ideas these commies have come up with.

The $100 bill taped on the mirror is a dead giveaway; he obviously felt bad for the working class janitor having to clean up the bloody mess. NOBODY carries around a $100 bill with a piece of tape attached. Even if he did happen to have these items, he wouldn't have the fortitude to fight the pain and arrange the payment.

Given the current state of these stupid commies, this story sounds totally logical nowadays.

Exactly.

The note and tip for the janitor point to it being planned.

If he was in such bad shape ("bleeding", "stumbling", and "collapsing") in the aftermath, it's extremely unlikely his first reaction would be to feel bad for the janitor and decide to leave a note and tip, and then be lucky enough to have a $100 bill, a piece of paper, a pen, and some tape handy.

The article doesn't establish when the money was put on the bathroom mirror, could have been afterward, could have been put there by someone else.

If it was a protest: really weird that it happened with no one around to see it. If he wanted to make a statement and had enough forethought to plant the money, why not have some witnesses too? What effect is there to a protest that no one sees?

Even Thích Quảng Đức (bhuddist monk, self-immolation, vietnam) lit himself on fire at a busy intersection.

The "professor" is a total idiot. Not to mention the fact of his reaction to that .22 round in his arm. I know a number of guys who took much larger rounds to various body parts including to the chest. And KEPT ON FIGHTING.

I wonder what the asshole thought when he got his immunization shots.

Oh, it comes to memory of a LEO friend of ours who pulled a really dumb shit trick and shot himself through the heel of his left hand.

Took himself to our daughter's house, with some medical supplies, and wanted her to stitch up the entry and exit holes. And he did it with his duty gun, not some toy like a .22.

And yeah, I know that a .22 is not a toy. It has killed a lot of game animals up to and including moose. Had an uncle, long since deceased, that regularly used a .22 single shot rifle to take deer, even an occasional elk.

Some of the butchers in Germany who killed their own animals used a .22 cal device to put down cows, pigs, etc.

Did the "professor" impress me with his shooting? No. Only that he missed his head.

Yep. The professor's story is fertilizer.

Sure, someone else could have planted the note and money. Anything's possible, just based on the very sketchy details in the article.

But ya'll are trying to apply logic to a crazy man's actions... Big Grin

I don't disagree that it was a terrible protest. But that doesn't mean this wasn't the crazy man's attempt at a protest. He's crazy, so it could have made perfect sense to him.

Yes, it's also possible that the protest reasoning very likely could have just been tacked on to the end by the crazy man. But I still think the most reasonable explanation is that the money and note were left by the crazy man, and the self-inflicted gunshot was most likely pre-planned, for whatever crazy reason.

How's this for a plausible theory? Maybe he was going to off himself. He left the note and tip as an apology for the pending cleanup, but then either had a ND in the process or flinched and missed, with the pain from the wound shocking him into deciding he wanted to live. (That's not unheard of...) He then went with this "protest" story as the first thing that came to his pain-addled crazy mind, because he didn't want to admit that he was trying to commit suicide.
