It’s about time Tucker took notice of this, it’s been like 2 years now that Matt Drudge has morphed into something very much left leaning. It’s ALL “Orange Man Bad” 24/7/365 now. My theory? Donald Trump promised Matt Drudge something early on but it never materialized and he got very butthurt over it all and turned on Trump:

That's possible but... I think he (they ) only care about generating traffic/revenue and wanted to expand the people who regularly visit the site. It would be interesting to see how many clicks they get now compared to 4-8 years ago. "Some things are apparent. I had the Drudge Report as my homepage on all of my personal computers and work computers from day one. About 2 years ago, i started noticing a direction change and finally 86ed the homepage and the link in my favorites. I used to listen to his radio show, but not on a regular basis. There was just something about him that didn't allow me to tune in regularly. This seems to be another example of the old saying, "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." Or, put another way, when you look at the Bill Kristols, George Wills and Matt Drudges, you'll find that ultimately it is less about principle and more about principal. The article linked in the OP is from 7/25, the topic is being raised now because of this somewhat recent interview/article from The Hill, but I've seen/heard Tucker discuss Drudge on his show well prior to that date. I don't remember there being a big kerfuffle raised when he mentioned it, probably early this year. I'm sure if I searched YT it's out there...
