Yes, Junk all junk I know.
I have a Lenovo Desktop with AMD A8-7600 R7 with an onboard AMD Radeon R7 Graphics card.

Many moons ago a Sigforum member (sorry I have forgotten who and look to have deleted the email) gave me a HIS HD3870 Graphics card
http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-35.shtml

I had it in a PC that is no longer functioning.
Is this card better than the onboard one I have.

I know the card is quite a bit older than my PC and I really don't know how to compare these things. Just looking to see if it is worth my while tossing the card in the PC I have.

The R7 is a bit faster. 930 vs. 726.

Typically, integrated video shares memory and processor as well as using software to function as a GPU package.

The add in cards have GPU and memory as well as code on-board and that allows much faster and better experience.

Especially in gaming.

So a lessor card is often better than a higher end integrated graphics.

You can look at the benchmark testing here:

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

A graphic card may not necessarily give better performance than a built in one.

I don't do AMD but Intel CPU's have the graphic built in and today they are quite good.
The only thing lacking in some cases is 3D performance in many complex games, even so they still perform very good especially in the I5 or I7 CPU's.

YMMV

So I stuck the card in just to see what it would do and if I noticed any differences from the onboard card.

There is a 6 pronged wire attachment at the front of the card but no loose loom matching that wire inside the PC. I am guessing that is power for the card/fan.

So it is not going to work any whoo.

Look at your power supply. The wire you need, a 6 pin PCIE connector, should come out of there if you have one.

ETA: Just did a quick google search and if you have a molex connector available you can buy an adapter to 6 pin PCIE.

Where would I plug that in?

Well there are no extra wires coming off the power supply or anywhere inside the PC. So I guess I am out of luck.

Also it seems to have reverted to Microsoft Basic Display Driver. For the onboard Graphics and I have lost some features I had.

How do I go about getting back to the old driver??

Biggest thing and a bit of a pain I have noticed is that the monitor will not automatically shut off anymore.
It will go to a projected black screen and leave the white mouse in the center but will not turn off any longer.

How can I go about finding a better driver?

I may have figured it out.
I found the AMD Driver Auto Detect on the AMD site so hopefully that will do it.

Hey! That used to be my video card. Razz

I think you'll have a hard time finding useful drivers for it, but pretty cool you're still trying to get some use out of it. Actually, I might have the one I replaced that one with somewhere, but it isn't much of a step up.

I went back through my emails before posting trying to figure out who had passed it along.
I need to better organize my emails in regard to karmas and classidies.

I had it in an old Vista machine that had been transferred to use in my shop. But pretty much nothing is suppprted in Vista any longer so I figured that I would try it in this machine even if it is only a little better than what I have currently. But I guess not having a way to power it killed that idea.

Thanks again. It has served me well for all these years.
