The gives you a clear idea of what Putin is about. I have to admit he has similar hobbies to mine in terms of recreation. He should do a cover shoot for Bass Pro Shops.

It's all about how he wishes to be perceived. I look at that the same way I do all of Putin's propaganda.

He is a man's man, at least in his own mind, and he want's that in your mind as well.

I never could understand the Russian need for hubris. It's all around arrogance, conceit, haughtiness, pride, self-importance, egotism, pomposity, and self-superiority.

I didn't understand it when I was there, I still don't understand it now that I'm back.

Agree with the above so much.

Putin is KGB, never forget that. He has no love for us, or our President.

I agree. That's what it's all about with Putin, and much of the Russian psychology.

All too true but then again Obama could have used a little help from his press people now and again.

I'd like to vacation wherever he is. Looks awesome.

Don't read the comments, a lot of people who hate our president in there.

Well I never read the comments in that paper. Thought the piece was kind of funny and enjoyed the places he gets to go.

There is another component to Putin's personality that drives him even further than hubris.

Power. His purpose is circular. He maintains his power for the sole reason of maintaining, and building upon, that power. This forms a perfect storm.

When arrogance and power are in 'stellar alignment', so to speak, there is formed a strange confluence of events that conspire together to create a self-sustaining oligarchy.

Let's see what this means on the street level, and we'll use Moscow as an example.

There is no freedom of sexual expression allowed in the city. And most exclusively, LGBTX expressions of sexuality are absolutely prohibited through out the metro. What some would call 'normal' expressions are strictly controlled and monitored. Think about that the next time you walk down the street holding your wife's hand, or giving her a kiss. Now the grasp the city Moscow finds itself in this regard is not going to get anyone sent to Siberia, but you may get prosecuted.

Next, freedom of Religion, even as it exists in the most sacred of their founding papers, has been greatly restricted. Being prodded, most likely by the Russian Orthodox Church, many Religious places of worship, Bibles, literature, and freedom to meet and preach, have been confiscated or broken up, even over the last few months. I have tried to contact Mr. Putin, and six of the most powerful 'strong men' in the Russian political Oligarchy to discuss opening a dialog from a delegation of religious leaders from around the world to discuss removing sanctions from law-abiding religious entities. Mr. Putin, it seems, can't be bothered by such things that effect the common man.

These are just two of the symptoms Moscow now faces, there are more, many more.

The disease is arrogance. The disease is to hold tight your power base. The disease is those like Vladimir Vladomirovich Putin exploiting these Cancerous growths on the political system of Russia.

Something big is going to have to happen. Something on the order of what happened in the late 80s and early 90s. I saw what was coming then when I was there, and I see it coming now. It's going to happen. And it's going to happen soon.

I recall another Russian who once said:
"We will bury you".
Putin is ex-KGB. That alone should tell you volumes about him.

Puten is not, nor will he ever be, Khrushchev. Not even a close second. Khrushchev was deliciously unpredictable, dangerous, mercurial, and a good way to get yourself killed if you found yourself on the wrong side of his ideals. Putin is a kinder, gentler kind of Sociopath. If he finds need, you will be framed by decree, your assets seized, and imprisoned without trial. I've seen it happen under Putin many times. Or, you may just simply disappear.

I like how Winston Churchill described Russia. It still applies today:

"I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest." -Winston Churchill, Radio Broadcast, 1939.

Russia WILL proceed to, and quite selfishly so, look toward it's own interests. It's written into their DNA.

Meh! Putin's vacation propaganda gave orders of magnitude larger reaction from me when President Mom Jeans was in the Oval Office. One of the many things I like about Trump is that a murderous thug (aka Putin) is no longer more admirable than the POTUS.

He was a KGB field agent, holds 8th Dan in and has written a book on Judo.

He's more of a "man's man" than most anyone I know....

Not saying he's a GOOD man but he's someone to respect, and even fear. He's a warrior without question.

TS,

I have nothing bad to say about your comments and the contributions you have made over the last decade you have been here. I appreciate your insightful points of view and always look forward to your posts.

Simply put, everything you just said is based on manufactured tradecraft. You are meant to say and believe these things you just said.

I don't care how Putin looks without a shirt on or in a Judogi, or in various wilderness settings. My comments come from who he is as a person. If only there was some means of quantifying just how much I don't care how he projects himself as a 'warrior'.

He's a bureaucratic, dictatorial, totalitarian oligarch. He's a bully, and a bad one. I wish I could take you to Moscow and show you what he has done to the city, with regard to religious sanctions in the name of squashing 'extremists', or those not of the Russian Orthodox Church. It's truly despicable.

You know it's not always been that way. Before it was a socialist propaganda machine it was actually a good newspaper that leaned left. The change happened about ten years ago. I'm not sure what precipitated it, but it's accelerated big time in the last three years. Kind of a circular feed back loop. I do read the comments, pretty often too. Last three years in lockstep both the articles and the posts have became progressively progressive, not just progressive, but militantly progressive.

I hardly read it anymore. This is my local newspaper, which ten years ago I read cover to cover. Makes me sad. Now I still read the sports and local stuff. I no longer pay for it as I refuse to feed the beast.

Ah, but do you remember that picture of Obama shooting an over-and-under shotgun, and all of the memes that flowed from it? That's what happened when Obama got "a little help" from his press weasels.
