Saw my cardiologist Tuesday and when he ask about my vaccine status told him I was getting the 2nd shot on March 18. He then explained to me what to expect in terms of side effects, which could range from nothing to pretty uncomfortable. Good news is the duration is short, usually less than 4 days.

So, what to expect.

Chills. Had that in spades. Shot was given at 10:00 AM and when I got home from work at 5:30 PM I was shivering. Granted temps were in the mid 30's with a 25 mph wind but the walk from the car is only about 45 feet. Kicked the thermostat up to 75 degrees and when that wasn't enough I put on my ski jacket. That did keep me from shivering. Didn't take that jacket off until midnight when it felt like the chills were fading out.

Joint aches. Yep, had those. Oddly it was both elbows where I do not have even a hint of Arthritis. My arthritic wrists and right shoulder was it's normal background pain acting as a warning not to do something that will hurt.

Mild Flu like symptoms. Yep, got those. Today is supposed to be a scheduled exercise day and that aint gonna happen. Feel punk enough that the thought of going out for a 4 mile jog is dreadful.

This is just a heads up for those with this vaccine stage coming up. While I don't regret getting the shot the first 24 hours after the shot were pretty damned uncomfortable. I will also note that it is important. My cardiologist stated that the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are extremely effective. Two weeks after the second shot the protection level is at about 95% and 4 weeks after the second shot it's at near 100%.

As for the J&J and Astrozenica, they aren't nearly as effective and he feels that those over 60 should not get these vaccines.

Simple update here. After 48 hours I am back to 100% normal, not even any pain at the injection site.

I’m scheduled for my 2nd Moderna shot tomorrow, Mar 20. No significant effect after the first one. Don’t expect any after the 2nd – will find out!

I got the Pfizer vaccine, as did Mrs. Flash.

I had no symptoms whatsoever with either shot, Mrs. Flash had none with the 1st and only a sore arm for one day with the 2nd.

Everyone's different.

I got severe chills several hours after my second Moderna shot, but otherwise nothing I noticed except for a slightly sore arm for a short time.

My wife had literally no side effects from her second shot.

My wife and I are scheduled for our second Pfizer shots on April 5. My arm on the first day felt like a took a punch from Tyson in his prime and felt like a normal flu shot by day two. My wife could only tell she was given the shot if she pushed on the spot. Neither of us had any ill affects or symptoms from the first shot and hoping for more of the same with shot number two.

I was a LOT tired the day after my second Moderna shot, had no appetite either. It was a short version of having covid! The arm was a little sore, that was minor.

Two days later and I'm back to normal.

Interesting stats I've not heard before re: effectiveness, at least the time frame and near 100% part. Anything from your MD re: the longevity of the claimed effectiveness of those two vaccines?

I continue to wonder about the 'true' longevity of the vaccine's effectiveness, as well as that of the antibody protection in those that have actually had COVID. Claims in the public domain have been seemingly all over the place on both, to even include 'you might need to get a booster every year'! IMO this lack of clarity does not instill confidence! Hopefully things change...

I also had not heard those stats before, however it does make some sense to me that the immune response will continue to build a bit more after that 2 week cutoff. As for Covid "boosters" in the future it may be best to view this in the same light as the Flu vaccine. The disease changes over time and it's up to Medicine to keep up with those changes.

I’m lethargic and sleep a lot anyway so I should probably just go get the shot.

Sorry to hear OP had a reaction.

Got first-Pfizered on Wednesday. No side effects at all.

Interested to look at the CDC vaccine card they gave me...it has printed areas to note:
quote:
1st Dose COVID-19
2nd Dose COVID-19
Other
Other

Wondering what the presence of those two "Other" lines implies.

Very little reaction after the first Moderna shot. 24 hours after the 2nd, my wife and I both felt fatigued. However, it was gone the next morning. I woke up from my afternoon nap with a bit of a chill. It may have been from the house not being warm. I took the dog for a walk and it was gone.

My wife's arm was red and tender to the touch after a couple of days and itched.

All in all, a very small price to pay to stay alive and get our lives back.

Like others, had the first Pfizer yesterday, experienced some site soreness and lethargy.

Had mine at the GEMA mass vaccination site at Columbus Civic Center. That's a little out of the way for me, but they had plenty of available appointments; none were available at the Delta Museum this month...

I'm due for my second on the 25th, looking forward to being fully vaccinated. I have friends using the side effects as an excuse not to get the vaccine, makes no sense!

Both wife and I had a slightly sore arm after the first Moderna.

I had the first Moderna shot last Wednesday. I just recovered from covid late January. They warned me the reaction could be "intense" since I had covid already. They were not joking, Thursday thru Sunday it was like I had covid again, I actually think after the shot the symptoms were much worse. On the bright side they told me the reaction from the second shot should be very mild.

First Pfizer for wife and me was sore arm and mild headache for day or so. Second shots were headache and mild flu-like symptoms for a couple of days for me while wife spent the entire day in bed sleeping off joint and muscle pain after #2. We both recovered completely a couple days after #2.

Moderna.
1st one, slight site soreness.
Second one, fine for 14 hours, then chills, slight fever, aches & pains for about 18 hours. The first 20 minutes were the worst.
Two Tylenol extra strength or some Advil help a lot.
Now I'm two plus weeks out and hoping the world goes back to normal soon, whatever that is now.

First Moderna injection my arm was a bit sore for about a day. To be expected.

Second injection was on a Sunday at 11a.m. Monday felt like crap all day. Symptoms like others described. Woke up Tuesday and was fine. Injection site was more sore than the first and lasted about three days.

My wife had similar experience.

Most people I have spoken with had the same set of reactions.
