Is this one of those “figure out the topic of my thread based on my “headline grabbing, non-descript title Para and Arc really hate to see” type things? Wink

Posted 2018-04-02 and bumped several times: From this point, any click-bait, vague thread titles gets your thread locked

Not “click bait,” it’s the subject of the thread I started. Tell me how it should be titled

I would suggest spelling out what SWMBO means. Then a very simple description of what you are looking for or what it's about if it's not obvious what SWMBO represents.

Ok, if the boss' direction is insufficient, than try reading this: Are you posting a thread?

It’s used all the time in the Forum, I guess this will be educational for those who see it and cruise right on by. OK, I’ll spell it out.

I'm thinking we should add HWMBI and replace the description next to the ignore button with that.

The problem, TMats, is that you posted a thread with a title that neither made a point or asked a question. Then, in your original post, typed simply "cute."

The title was, and remains click bait.

Your OP, "cute" implied you thought the acronym silly (to me it did, anyway), but then you added the "Doesn't show respect..." part. So now, after all this, we get your point. (But still only after clicking on it. Thus "click bait.")

Do you still not see why Para posted the "no click bait thread titles" and why Arc posted what he did?

I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I'm trying to help you generate the discussion I assume you want and avoid your thread getting locked.

Disrespectful?
Are you aware of this new invention called "a joke"? It's really neato and will show you another new thing called "funny".
Of course it's a difficult concept for those who CHOOSE to make everything as serious as possible and find offense in every facet of their day. Relax and watch some Mtv or something.

The first time I saw the acronym and became aware of its meaning I understood it to be used jokingly, and gave a half smile. When a “joke” is repeated again and again, I no longer smile. YMMV

I think you may find the acronym is neither condescending nor demeaning. of course YMMV. Wink

Men have jokingly complained about their wives for centuries. No, make that eons. It's a male bonding thing- 'Oh, woe is me, but we men are united in our misery', and you know that most of them don't really mean it.

There are exceptions of course. A few years back, I was at a funeral, and this kid I knew- probably all of 18 years old at the time- walked up to me with a girl in tow.

"This is my old lady", he said to me.

I looked at him, shook my head and said "Son. Son," then I looked at her and said "Don't take that kind of stuff from him."

It's one thing to do it in the company of other males only. It's something else altogether when you say it in the presence of a woman, or, in this case, a young girl who didn't know any better. Also, I don't want to hear that kind of stuff from some kid who has had hair on his balls for maybe four years.

That being said, it's harmless and traditional.

1. What Para said.

2. I get that it gets old and will try not to use it quite as much.

3. If the OP heard the way my wife and I talk to each other, he'd probably spontaneously combust.

4. If either of us thought for one second that the other was serious, there'd be hell to pay. And probably lawyers...

5. My wife was looking over my shoulder as I typed this and said "Doesn't anybody have a sense of humor any more?"
