You can get out early if your command will let you. Good luck with whatever you chose to do.

And even if you are thinking of a Fed job, but aren't sure, put in for it now and start the process. Sometime it can take up to 2 years to get a job offer.

You can make your decision to take the job or not later. Who knows what your situation will be like in a year. Keep your options open.

If being a cop is a dream job, you are doing it wrong. If I could go back and change things, being a cop would not be even close to being on the radar.

Why not go active duty? You can also checkout Tour of Duty website and look for possible active duty tours. Checkout the PFI program, I forget what the acronym stands for but you can find active duty tours there also. Tours can be CONUS or OCONUS.

Big Grin Thanks! I'm looking into it, unfortunately while I'm not "colorblind", I am "color deficient" in that I can tell green from yellow from red and all that fun stuff, but can't pass the Ishihara test to save my life. Not a problem where I am, but looks to be for that department, sadly.

I've tried going Active Duty several times in the past, but would be required to change my MOS. USACAPOC is notorious for not allowing that. (AD CA and Reserve CA are very, very different.)

For the time being, looks like I'll be doing the $10 security thing for a while longer.

Once I get a car, of course...as this rate, it will be about 10-12 days before I get the compensation from State Farm. It's not their fault, it's a DMV issue with the title for my car. I owned the car outright, but the DMV had sent my title to the wrong address and it was returned. Been dealing with it since I got off AD but should have it in a week or so. I've also reached out to the previous owner, who wants to buy the wreck for parts. Unfortunately the requires that I have the title in-hand that I can give to the DMV for a salvage certificate, and I have to give a copy of the salvage certificate to State Farm before they can cut me a check.

Not having a car is a pain in the rear, but for the moment I'm getting by without.

At least you have a good attitude about it all. No matter how bleak it seems, someone has it worse. Keep your head up and keep up the good attitude, something will shake out for you.

Well the title to my totaled car arrived this evening.

Tomorrow I take that to the Harrisburg DMV to exchange for a salvage certificate, which I email a copy of to State Farm. Then they'll deposit the settlement.

Expecting $400-500 from the guy who's taking the wreck for parts, and will likely buy a replacement directly from him as well. May ask him to move few things over from the wreck to the new car as well.

I was looking at a 2006 Ford Expedition as a short-term replacement, but was cautioned against it due to issues with the 5.4 engine at high miles (it has 175k). I wouldn't need it more than a year, but the way my luck is working it would break down within two months Big Grin

Job interviews Wednesday and Thursday. Both essentially guaranteed...nothing fancy, just site security again. Low-paying as always but it's "my thing" so it'll work for the short term.

So hopefully by Friday I'll have a new car and a source of income.
