If you look deeper and closer you will likely find that $89 (each way) is subsidized ~$200 each way and the time required for the travel is 3x - 4x the time it would require an aircraft to fly the route.

So - $600 round trip and 3 times the amount of time when compared to an airline.

If that jackwagon(s) in Sacramento (moonbeam in particular) had decided to spend that money on water desalination, SF and LA would not be needing to steal the central valley farmers' water.

I don't understand how they figure so many people need to commute between north and south, anyway. If people aren't using it for commuting, then they should very well be able to endure a six hour road trip.

No doubt there will be subsidies - just more tax dollars spent but well-hidden from plain view. And I agree 100% on water programs. If not desalinization, then more dams and reservoirs to catch the natural rain & snowmelt. But no, that might endanger the three remaining 1/4" long "truncated fuckdoodles" that live in some obscure marsh! If I were a swearing man...

One of the many reasons I like our governor is he refused this same project.

It was to go between Orlando and Tampa and was to have so many stops there was never going to be anything high speed about it.

Yes, the mayor of the city closest to us had that as his pet project for about 5 years. He wanted it to run to Chicago and back. He tried to get the state to subsidize it too. The people around here were not buying it and voted it down several times, before he let it go. With his politics, he belongs in chicago or San fran.
He is facing his stiffest competition for mayor in his 20 year career this november. I do not live in the city, but it is a cesspool.

Good luck with your money pit.

Not exactly, they're still doing the Miami to Orlando part of it.

Because it's a great way to siphon off "government" money and give it to their buddies.

Remember how they said they needed to replace the bay bridge because it was unsafe then the replacement had a lot of flaws like using substandard screws. The hubbub lasted for a while but it was eventually stamped out.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Right. But as you can see, he was referencing Orlando to Tampa, which is asinine to say the least.

Since the same government officials are driving all the business/industry out of the state there is really no need for this.

Completely different animal. The high speed line came with billions of federal money and all the requirements that go with it.

This is more of a private competitor to Amtrak. They are expecting to make a profit and a Miami to Orlando using existing right-of-ways makes a certain amount of sense. The high speed train was just about getting federal money and letting the future deal with the consequences.

AllaboardFlorida is the same way. They raised the money to modify the tracks and get the trains, but not to operate the darn thing.

Honestly a high speed rail from Miami to Orlando to Tampa would make a lot of sense for moving goods......Our infrastructure in regards to how roads, rail, subways, busses in this country really sucks compared to Europe and the traffic in South Florida, Orando, and Tampa has really gotten out of hand.

Ah, but CA doesn't like building roads.

Wasting money, and putting the wasted money into politically correct hands...now that, they like a lot!

Come on guys!

Give ol' moonbeam a break!

His state in only TWO TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT, and that continues to increase.

What is another couple hundred billion in new debt?

The state is actually bankrupt, but ol' moonbeam continues to spend like the drunken fool his is.

Yeah but they went ahead with the Brightline boondoggle...All Aboard Florida is what was "cancelled" by Scott, but we then rebranded and later signed up for the Brightline which economically is not sustainable.

I'm not a fan of these big government subsidized projects. They don't work, at least in today's world.
