Feed them to the pigs I say! Preferably while still alive. No mercy, no appeal. That is all.

I am presently in the process of cleaning several very nasties off of Mrs. Pilot's computer. Thankfully, the website Majorgeeks.com has some great guidance on getting it done.

The ironic part is that she's even more anal about protecting her computer than I am, and she is smart about the ways the bad-guys get in. We're both scratching our heads about this.

Now...about those pigs.

I've come across one or two that didn't even require being run. Simply selecting them for deletion (no Preview pane - single-click for high-lighting) & the damned things installed.

I wonder what goes on in the minds of such people. Their existance must truly be miserable & worthless if this is how they pass their time.

I've spent years dealing with these miscreants at a corporate level. In days gone by they were often just talented kids being stupid kids. Then some started getting jobs because of their "skill"....fast forward today. Your computer, more specifically it's resources and the bandwidth you pay for to connect to the internet are viewed as a commodity by "organizations" (typically organized where laws around this stuff don't exist, or the local government doesn't care). The drive is money, and in many cases they get it either by forcing your computer through add clicks, etc..or by stealing it's time and bandwidth which they actually sell as part of 'bot nets' to whoever wants to buy it for all sorts of reasons.

As for the solution, if they could be rounded up I'm all for the hogs idea, so long as I get to kick 'em square several times for the countless hours I've spent dealing with them Smile

One of the night shift workers clotted up my work PC Friday night and I didn't discover it until this afternoon.(on top of a server dying and me having to resurrect it)
They were hunting X-Box 360 stuff(I have the logs).
Of course no one on night shift will fess up.
So either I fire the entire lot of them or somebody owns up.
They have till tomorrow afternoon.

So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.

If you haven't already, make that point abundantly clear to all of them, and then see if a little peer review doesn't occur.

I've been beating on other issues this morning.
Like an expired license.
But it's installing now.
And the PC is getting wiped. It was in the BOSD restart loop this morning.
SOMEONE had attempted to repair it last night.
And I have narrowed it down to two people.
One is not my responsibility.
The other is and won't give me a direct answer, he may be hunting a job tomorrow.

IMO, I think that one of the SEAL Teams should be tasked with finding and eliminating these malicious turds no matter whose sewer they float in ....even if it's a 14 year old misunderstood Dutch nerd. One or two and the rest will probably get the message..... Mad

That's exactly what was on one of the PCs.
There is a remover for it.
But there was more crap installed also.
*sigh*
Jerry is STILL trying to clean it up.

[sarcasm]You misunderstand. Without them exploiting your computer's weaknesses, you wouldn't know how insecure your computer actually is. They're doing you a favor, just ask them.[/sarcasm]

In frontier times the penalty for the theft of livestock was death. Not because the crime was so heinous, but because it was so easy to commit. A disproportion punishment was required to deter the generally law abiding people from committing the act. A truly lawless man would not care what the punishment and would commit the crime without regard. Disproportional sentences worked well in both cases, those that just needed a nudge to walk the line where held on the path with the threat of death, the truly lawless would commit the crime anyway and if caught where summarily hung. I propose the same thing for Virus writers and spammers. I know that most with think this a bit extreme, and it would never actually happen, but I feel it would be in everyones best interest. I am sure that someday the rest of the country will come around. It is just too easy to fill millions of inboxes with penis enlargement emails, or write viruses to exploit the weakness of a browser. Some real consequences may stem that tide.

Well, if we cut off both hands they'd be unable to type code. At least temporarily. Maybe they shouldn't do anything to them... except publish their name, photo & home address... on the Internet. I'll bet that the problem would take care of itself quick enough.

They are vandals, and I, HATE vandals. Yes I mean hate. I just want to e-mail a few friends,
check out SIGForum, and download a few pics of Jennifer Aniston. Who am I hurting? Why eff
with me? But no, because some silly ass eff'in tard as this crap on the net, I have to spend
my hard earned money on, anti-virus this, and spyware that. The thought of one of these eff'in
skidmarks being staked out for the crows gives me a tingle all over.

God bless America...and no one else
